Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope our Year 6 children have a fantastic week away at Manor Adventure. There were lots of excited children (and parents!) this morning.
As a school, we promote leading a healthy lifestyle including the importance of a balanced diet. The school kitchen works within very strict nutritional guidelines about what can and cannot be included in lunches, including reduced salt, sugar and saturated fats. We would like to ask for your support in promoting this healthy eating when organising children’s packed lunches. This does not mean that children should miss out on all the things that they enjoy eating. Variety is the key to a healthier lunch box. It is all about getting a balance and a good variety of foods over the week. Food high in fat and sugar should be restricted. Treats can be included at lunch time; however, plain or lower sugar varieties should be encouraged. Thank you for your continued support. Please also remember that we are a nut free school due to some children having severe nut allergies.
Miss Monk is with us in year 1 this term. She is a visiting teacher from BSITT (Bishops Stortford Initial Teacher Training). We will also have visiting teachers in Reception and Year 2 from Cambridge University in the coming weeks.
Most of our clubs start this week. Please speak to the office to find out more information.
We are in the process of confirming dates for parent consultations which will be in October. You will have the option to attend either face to face or remotely depending on your preference. When you have received the dates please let the class teachers know if you are unable to ‘attend’ as an alternative date may be available
If you’re interested in joining the PTA and helping out this year please email: PTA@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk. We also have the school disco on Friday 27th September, you could speak to a PTA member to find out how to become involved.
Please can you make sure your child has a named coat/jacket for use at break and lunchtimes. The weather at the moment is very unpredictable and we like to get the children out whatever the weather.
If your child is absent from school it is important to let the school office know the reason for non-attendance. Missing a few days of school here and there may not seem a big deal, but research shows that it can have a significant impact on children's learning. Children who miss a substantial amount of school fall behind their peers, and struggle to catch up. Persistent absence is defined as an attendance rate of 90% or below.
Drivers, please take extra care when you have to drive or park in and around the school,. Recently it has been reported to us of cars narrowly missing children from both Thorn Grove and Herts and Essex. We ask that you consider whether you need to park as close to school, however we do not encourage anyone parking in the Thorn Grove Cul-de-Sac. The safety of all the children attending the school should be everyone’s upmost priority.
Why not complete the Travel Trail on your way to school?
