Dear Parents and Carers,
Don't forget that the next PTA meeting is tonight at 8pm at the Nags Head. Please come along to find out about upcoming events and how you can get involved.
We look forward to welcoming you in for parent consultations next week. We hope you have all booked a 10 minute slot to either attending remotely or face to face on the Wednesday. If you are coming in, you will have the opportunity to look at your child's learning in their books. If you have a remote appointment you will recieve a link from the relevant class teacher. The link is still open for bookings, if you haven't already, however if you are having problems please speak to the office.
Class attendances the week before half term (highest to lowest):
Year 3 - 96.3%
Year 5 - 96.0%
Year 4 - 95.9%
Year 1 - 95.1%
Year 6 - 93.9%
Year 2 - 91.6%
We have an increasing number of children arriving late in the morning after the registration closes. If your child arrives after 9.15am, other than for a medical appointment, then this is an unauthorised mark on your child's attendance. We understand that the traffic in town is always an issue but please can we ask that all the children are in school and on time. You are able to view your child's attendance on the Arbor portal.
This Friday will be a non-uniform day in aid of Comic Relief. The money raised will do serious good for serious reasons, across the UK and around the world. Suggested donation of £1 paid via www.schoolgateway.com or directly to your child’s teacher.
Before the end of term (Friday 27th March @ 1:30pm) please pop in to check lost property. The best time is pick up at the end of the school day.
If your child has special educational needs and you are looking for support and guidance, then please visit the DSPL3 (Delivering Special Needs Locally) website (dspl3.org.uk). Here you will find useful training courses and workshops. DSPL3 provide a range of courses for parents and carers on topics such as autism, dyslexia and anxiety, amongst others. They also hold coffee mornings for parents and carers of children with SEND. They are relaxed and supportive meetings designed to offer valuable information and networking opportunities.
The House Captains proudly represented Thorn Grove at the Bishop’s Stortford Pupil Voice Network last week. They were one of 11 schools taking part, meeting with peers to explore ways to support and improve the local community. The group also heard from Josh Dean MP, who spoke about his journey into Parliament and the importance of young people having a voice. They were awarded second place in the Pupil Voice Network Community Award for their commitment to organising the Rudolph Run to support St Clare Hospice and their enthusiasm for community action.

The PTA are excited to launch our Coin Wars fundraising competition, running from 2nd March – 20th March!
Each class will have its own collection pot, and children are invited to bring in loose change to help their class raise as much money as possible for our school.
How does it work?
- Every classroom has a collection pot.
- Children can add any British coins (1p–£2).
- Every contribution counts — big or small!
- All money raised will go towards PTA projects that benefit the whole school.
⭐️ How is the winning class chosen?
The winning class will be the one that collects the highest total value of money by the end of the competition (not the number of coins).
🏆 Prize: The winning class will enjoy a special Break the Rules Day!
A few reminders:
- British currency only please (no foreign coins).
- Coins can be brought in throughout the competition dates.
- Participation is completely optional — all donations are appreciated.
Let the friendly competition begin, and thank you as always for supporting the PTA and helping us create exciting opportunities for the children!
