We hope our Year 6 children have a fantastic week away at Manor Adventure. There were lots of excited children (and parents!).
Miss Palmer and Miss Corden are with us in Year 2 and 5 this term. They are visiting teachers from BSITT (Bishops Stortford Initial Teacher Training). We will also have visiting teachers in from Cambridge University in the coming weeks.
Most of our clubs start this week. Please speak to the office to find out more information.
We are in the process of confirming dates for parent consultations which will be in October. You will have the option to attend either face to face or remotely depending on your preference. When you have received the dates please let the class teachers know if you are unable to ‘attend’ as an alternative date may be available
If you’re interested in joining the PTA and helping out this year please email: PTA@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk.
It might feel a long way off but the Christmas dates are in the calendar! We appreciate getting time off for school events can be difficult so please check the dates out so you're free to attend.
Please can you make sure your child has a named coat/jacket for use at break and lunchtimes. The weather at the moment is very unpredictable and we like to get the children out whatever the weather.
If your child is absent from school, it is important to let the school office know the reason for non-attendance. Missing a few days of school here and there may not seem a big deal, but research shows that it can have a significant impact on children's learning. Children who miss a substantial amount of school fall behind their peers, and struggle to catch up. Persistent absence is defined as an attendance rate of 90% or below.
Hertfordshire County Council’s Plan for Children and Young People will be launched in November 2025.
The Plan was shaped by feedback from families and sets out an ambition that all children and young people, including those with SEND, can get a good education; the importance of listening to children and young people's views; and keeping them safe where they live, in their communities and online.
In the meantime, if you are interested in the current plan is it available at Hertfordshire's plan for children and young people 2021-26 | Hertfordshire County Council

Snack-tember is a month-long initiative by the British Nutrition Foundation aimed at promoting healthier snacking habits among children. The initiative encourages us to explore our current snacking choices, try new healthier snacks, and make our own healthy snacks. More information and snack ideas can be found at Attack the Snack - Simply Veg
We would like to support this campaign and suggest that children bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable to school for snack at least twice a week – Key Stage 1 children receive free fruit or vegetables each day.
Using the food labelling code is a helpful way to see at a glance if a snack has high, medium, or low amounts of fat, saturated fat, sugars, and salt: red means high, amber means medium, and green means low. In short, the more green(s), the healthier the choice.
