Dear Parents/Carers,
Please join us on Friday for our first Reading Cafe of the school year. Doors will open from 8:30am. Join us for a tea or coffee with your children to help us promote a love of reading. Come in and see the new library if you haven't already had an opportunity to do so.
Don't forget to send in any food donations. Non-perishable goods and especially those that help to make an easy meal (pasta, chopped tomatoes, rice, baked beans, jam, cereal, soup, and tinned fruit) can make a real difference. Please see the poster below for more information. They will be collected from school by the Food Bank later this week. You would have recieved a more detailed email today.
Don't forget to book you parent consultation appointment, if you haven't already thorngroveparentseveningsystem.co.uk
It is important that you get to speak to your child's class teacher so that you know how they are getting on since the start of this academic year.
At this time of year we see an increase in colds and bugs. Some basic hygiene practices go a long way in preventing infections. Remind your child to:
Wash their hands for at least 20 seconds using soap and water.
Use tissues for coughs and sneezes then throw them in the bin.
Avoid touching their face, particularly their eyes, nose and mouth.
Thank you for continuing to park away from the road leading to the school. It does make a difference at drop and pick up times. Can we please ask that you avoid parking on the corners, on double yellow lines or across people’s driveways on Pine Grove and the other surrounding roads.
The next PTA event is the 'Let's Party Disco' on Friday (17th October) from 6pm to 7:30pm. See the flyer below for more details. If you feel that you can lend a hand please reach out and contact the PTA via email (PTA@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk).
Birthdays are celebrated each Friday as part of our assembly. The whole school sings Happy Birthday to the children whose birthday has taken place that week. Each child receives a birthday sticker from Mr Luck to mark the occasion. We are currently reviewing how we celebrate birthdays and would like your views. Traditionally, some children enjoy celebrating their birthday by bringing in a sweet treat for their peers, however we are considering an alternative – such as that children bring in a book to share or donate to their class. For this reason please complete our poll.
The children’s publisher Puffin issued an alert at the end of last week regarding books authored by Andy Cope including those in the Spy Dogs, Spy Cats, and Spy Pup series. Within the books, there is a link which encourages children to find out about additional information told during the story. The link is intended to take children to Mr Cope’s webpage, however the domain is no longer owned by him and instead the link will direct children to a webpage now owned by a third party. This third party is publishing inappropriate content. If your child has one of these books at home we recommend you remove the back page where you'll find the link and speak to your child about the importance of asking an adult before following any links in books.
