Dear Parents and Carers,
We wish our Year 6 class good luck this week as they sit their KS2 SATS. They have worked incredibly hard and we’ve all been impressed with their attitudes to learning.
ThornFest is this Saturday. The forecast is looking good so please come along. There will be games, a bouncy castle, raffle, bbq, Mr Luck in the stocks and lots more. It is £3 entry for adults and children free.
Please can you ensure that you name your child's school uniform as we have an increasing number of items in lost property.
We have had a number of parents going on unauthorised ‘holidays’ during term time. Whilst we understand that these may be to visit family abroad due to unforeseen circumstances we ask that you really consider if the trip is necessary.
There is lots going on so please make sure you check the diary for key dates over the coming weeks. We hope that we will see you at some of our upcoming events such as Sports Days.
If your child has been successful in an activity outside of school, please share it with us. Mr Luck enjoys sharing trophies, certificates and awards at the end of each week.
Some parents will receive letters regarding their childs attendance towards the end of this half term. We will be arranging meetings with the parents where attendance needs improving to see how we can offer support.
In this warm weather can we remind you to send children in with a sun hat and a water bottle. Please put sun cream on your child before they come to school.

Exciting Plans for a New School Library!
The PTA is thrilled to announce a new project: they are raising funds to build a brand-new library for our school! The aim is to create a modern, welcoming space that will inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning for the children.
Here are three designs and we want your input! The proposed designs will be on display at Thornfest, so be sure to stop by, take a look, and share your thoughts.
Please support the PTA in this important project. Every donation, large or small, helps bring us one step closer to making this dream a reality.
As you may be aware, the traffic congestion on Thorn Grove during school drop-off and pick-up times has been an ongoing challenge. In an effort to improve safety and reduce congestion, we are looking to trial a vehicle-free zone on Thorn Grove during peak school hours, starting in June when we return after half term. This initiative aims to create a safer environment for our pupils while also alleviating the parking and traffic issues in the area.
We understand that this change may impact some of you whilst you drop your child(ren) off, and we welcome any feedback or concerns you may have. If you have any objections or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We will share more information about this over the coming weeks. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work towards a safer and more accessible community for everyone.

Step2Skills continues to recruit for our brand-new Skills Bootcamps!
With a big workforce expansion required to keep up with demand, Step2Skills are offering a Skills Bootcamp to help prepare you to work in the Early Years and Education sector.
At the end of our 16-week bootcamp, learners will be equipped with a Level 2 certificate in childcare, an Emergency Paediatric First Aid Certificate and a DBS check. They will be fully prepared to take their first step into an Early Years job role, or ready to progress to a Level 3 apprenticeship course.
Examples of who could benefit from our Skills Bootcamps;
• Jo is working as a childminder and always has more requests for places which she, alone, cannot accommodate. Jo would really like to employ Simrit as an assistant, but the cost of training Simrit up is a barrier.
Instead Simrit could attend the Step2Skills Skills Bootcamp, meaning that she’s got all the necessary qualifications to support Jo in her childminding business. Her new qualifications mean that she can be counted in the adult-to-child ratios, allowing Jo to expand the number of children she can care for.
• Sam has recently returned to work after a break to raise her children. She is working in the school kitchen, as this work fits well around her childcare responsibilities. However, this job has made her realise that she enjoys working with young children and would like to work in the school’s nursery.
Sam could attend the Step2Skills Skills Bootcamp to give her the qualification she needs to apply for a job in the school nursery.
• Robert has been volunteering in his son’s nursery for one day a week this year and has really enjoyed the challenge and variety of the work. The nursery is keen to take Robert on in a more permanent role when his son starts school in September, so they plan to send him on the Step2Skills Skills Bootcamp to gain the necessary qualifications. Robert already knows the nursery set up and the staff, so he feels confident that this is the best way to develop his new career.
Skills Bootcamps are FREE to the learners and are a great way for employers to grow their own workforce. Skills Bootcamps require commitment and dedication, but they are a fast and efficient way to kickstart your career in a sector that needs YOU!

This poem cries out for movement and rhythm. There is also a joke in the last line. Can you spot it?
Take a look at the third line of the poem: there's a wolf with some mutton (sheep meat) in its maw. Which body part do you think is the wolf's maw? Click on the link below to find the answer
