Weekly Newsletter
Monday 11th March
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely to see the children dressed up for World Book Day., they all had a great day celebrating the love of books.
It is with regret that we have to inform you that Mrs Ford will be leaving us at Easter. She has worked at the school since September 2015 and will have worked with many of your children in that time. We will miss her but we wish her well as she moves to France with her family.
The school football team played St Michael's last week. It was the last fixture of the season and they won 4-2. Goalscorers were Kaiyden Oduro-Tenkorang (2), Alex Giron and Kai Chowdhury.
Some of our Year 6 children represented the school at Quicksticks last Thursday at Birchwood School. The team won one and drew 2 of their games. They showed a fantastic attitude in every game.
The PTA quiz night (last Thursday) was a fantastic event enjoyed by both staff and parents. Congratulations to the year 5 parents who were victorious, narrowly beating one of the staff teams by 1 point!. Thank you to the PTA and especially Sarah Fowles and Nick Aitken for organising this. We look forward to similar events in the future.
Please look out for information for the PTA Easter Egg competition which will be sent out this week.
We welcomed Woodwind of Stortford into school today. They played some fantastic music and shared information about the instruments they play.
Just a reminder, there is a Sleep workshop this Wednesday 13th March at 9:30am in the school hall. The workshop will run for approximately 1 hour and will be delivered by Educational Mental Health Practitioners from the Mental Health Support Team who are work with us. If you need support with strategies to help your child with bedtime and sleep routines then this is not to be missed.
Comic Relief 2024 is this Friday (15th March). This will be a non-uniform day where children can come to school with the craziest head, hair or hat designs they can! Head, hat or hair – we don’t care! We would like the children to show us their most adventurous styles which can include face paint, hair spray, wigs, glasses, caps – we want to see it all! The suggested donation for Comic Relief is £1.
As many of you will have heard, our current uniform provider, Fosters Schoolwear, have gone into voluntary liquidation. Our new supplier is AVM Workwear & Schoolwear in Southmill Road. All uniform with the school logo can be purchased on-line at www.avmworkwear.co.uk and in their School section, search for Thorn Grove. You will be able to order the most popular items of uniform with effect from today (Monday 11th March).
We have a huge amount of lost property at present, mostly with no names on it. You can purchase iron on name labels from our new supplier. This would reduce the amount of uniform lost and in the long run, save you money.
Heritage Week June 2024
Building on the success of Heritage Day in July 2022, Heritage Week June 2024 will celebrate the cultures represented within the school community. We will learn about different traditions, languages, food and values.
To help this event be as successful as possible, please complete the short survey we will be sending this week.
