Dear Parents and Carers,
We look forward to seeing as many of you next week for Christmas Craft Day on Wednesday. We appreciate that it's not always possible for you to get away from work but it's great for the children when you come in. Children can wear a Christmas jumper as part of Christmas Craft Day but it is not a non-uniform day. It is school policy that preschool-aged siblings do not attend. We’re sure you can appreciate that having too many little ones in the classrooms can make it difficult to manage the activities and ensure everyone’s safety.
The end of term is incredibly busy. Please check the 'Future Diary Dates' in the newsletter so you can keep up with what's going on. If you're not sure ask the office or send a WhatsApp message to you class rep to find out or check.
This week we will have the Christmas Post Box in the Library for children to post Christmas cards to their friends if they choose to. Please remember that all envelopes need to be marked with the child's name and year group. The cards will then be sorted each day and delivered to the classrooms.
Some of our Year 1 and Year 2 children had the opportunity to take part in a multi-skills session at Birchwood last week. For those children selected it was a fun couple of hours trying out different activities and games.
Thank you to Father Simon from All Saints Church who came in to school today to talk to the children in assembly about Advent.
The current school attendance is 94.2%. This is below the national mark of 95.0%.
We appreciate that there are lots of seasonal illnesses at the moment but if it a minor cough or common cold please send your child in. Attendance is important as it allows children to build on their prior learning. If they are absent for too many days it will affect their attainment and progress.
It can be hard to decide whether or not to keep your child off school when they are unwell. There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These state when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't. If you do keep your child at home, it's important to leave a message on the absence line on the first day giving a reason. If your child is well enough to come to school but has something that potentially could be passed on, please let the office know. Pupils should not miss school on a precautionary basis and can normally attend school with a cough or cold, unless they have a fever or diarrhoea and vomiting. It is worth noting that children with diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from school until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days (48 hours).
Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk) is a useful site.
One of our Governors (Andrew Bennett) term ends at the end of January. Andrew is keen to remain as a Parent Governor and has put himself forward to continue for a further 4 years. As part of the Governor election process we welcome interest from other parents who may wish to join the Governing Board. If you are interested please speak to Mr Luck before the end of term.
Well done, Thorn Grove! You raised £768.00 plus £185.79 Gift Aid for St Clare Hospice. The House Captains did a brilliant job organising the event and making sure everyone enjoyed the run. A big thank you to Sonny, Billy and Pablo from GCS Groundcare for painting the St Clare logo. On Thursday, Nancy from St Clare is visiting to present a cheque in celebration of our achievement and to explain more about the important work the hospice does. We'll be posting more photos in the school's gallery throughout the week.
