Years of childhood trauma, a certain lack of empathy for others, and a strong desire to gain dominance over others. These are all factors which can lead to the transformation of an ordinary citizen to someone cold and ruthless, ready to take the lives of innocent civilians, justifying their actions with the need for simple self-gratification.
This workshop will explore, how an ordinary person is transformed into someone that feels an urge to satisfy themselves by taking the life of another. It will focus on common qualities that are shared by most serial killers, as an individual isn't simply born a serial killer, but is shaped to become one, through the relationships with their family and society. Moreover, the workshop will place a few of history's most notorious, deadly killers, and will place them under a microscope to identify what made them commit the murders they are known for today. It will highlight their relationships with their families, their personalities, and their reasoning for taking the lives of innocent individuals.
On the surface, Muhammad Alif Naufal is a secondary student in Qatar International School who is doing very well with his academics. A strong, optimistic student who works hard for his goals he never gives up regardless of how difficult the obstacles he has to go through are. He loves tackling problems head-on, yet he is always careful and thinks of the challenges he faces through.
Muhammad joined some of these activities such as the World Scholar's Cup programme and Model United Nations. These programmes have taught him countless things and over the years, he has improved greatly in his debating skills and public speaking skills. He became a confident person who now feels excitement and joy when speaking in front of an audience. Recently, he decided to branch out his skills and started to participate in MUN conferences as a Student Officer and he enjoys the experience. Even so, he aims to continue his ambitions and take his journey further, which is why he looks forward to presenting in Qatar's largest leadership student-led event, the Qatar Leadership Conference.
If a passion for speaking out on their opinions, very high ambitions, and a strong urge to combat social injustice in today's world were all compressed to form one being, you would have Nathan Wijayaratne. A year 11 student in Qatar International School, Nathan has participated in platforms of public speaking since year 7, with the World Scholars Cup and Debate clubs. Perhaps it was the thrill of approaching the podium to deliver a speech, or the feeling of accomplishment that comes with a perfectly delivered speech that ignited a strong passion for public speaking in him. This fire led him to discover MUN, and in his first conference, QISMUN, the prospect of drafting solutions to some of the world's most prevalent problems and the heated debates that took place between intellectual delegates added some more embers to that fire. Thus, in the past three years, he has attended numerous conferences across Qatar, winning best delegate awards, and attaining the position of Student Officer. Nathan also has aspirations to make a difference in society, reaching out to communities that don't have privileges considered to be common in the 21st century.
