A video criticizing the Feminist Movement recently went viral on social media; the main concerns of the speaker were the fact that the movement was not inclusive of all women, and how it advocated for the idea that one gender was superior compared to the others, instead of talking about gender equality. It got me thinking about the importance of Feminism and the modern-day Feminist movement in our status quo; how, despite major strides being made, the Sustainable Development Goal 5 still remains a very crucial goal. This workshop will analyze the role of women in building our society in contemporary history; from the French Revolution to the World War 2. Participants of the workshop will be asked to imagine what Feminism should look like, and to analyze the role of women in the media. The workshop will use a human barometer activity to encourage participants to think about their understanding of feminism, and know where they stand on polarizing issues related to the SDG 5. The workshop will also examine the intersectionality of different movements like the Black Lives Matter movement with the Feminist movement. In short, at the end of the workshop, participants will be left with more questions than answers, but hopefully, the workshop will light a spark of inquisition and encourage them to go out and look for the answers to their questions.
