Confidence is an issue that many face every day. Be it interviews, talking to a crowd, another person or even just everyday decisions and activities. Without it, the effects on everyday life can be devastating, so how do we fix that? Different people have different methods, some work; some do not. And that is exactly what I hope to change.
I hope to share the story of my life so far and how I have built my confidence over the years and to help people build theirs. I want to discuss the impacts of having certain degrees of confidence. I want to explore ways that worked for me and ways that I believe can be universal to help people anywhere. No matter the person or place, when or where.
Ibrahim Bilal is a 15 year old with a love for MUN and what it embodies. Alongside MUN, he participates in a variety of activities such as sports (rugby and basketball), academic competitions and debating. He also likes to take part in hobbies such as woodwork and painting to let out the creative side of him. He has presented a talk on space in school, joined the debate club, and found ways to better his public speaking and himself. In the future, he hopes to pursue a career in medicine because of his love for the sciences. Previously, when he was younger, he was deemed shy and under confident. This description was not one that he liked because he felt it was not accurate and that it restrained him from showing the world what he truly could be. He never was good at showing his achievements and so was often disregarded. But, with his introduction to MUN, it all changed. And since that first conference, he has only tried to find more challenges for him to face.
With every conference he works harder to show the world that he is not what they use to think him to be. He believes the reason he is able to continue to get better is his confidence in himself which he got from participating in MUN. So, in the upcoming QLC conference, he hopes talk about his own story of confidence. How he has improved it, what kinds of effects that it has had on his life, and discuss how everyone can better their confidence in their own ways. And in doing so, he would have faced another challenge in public speaking by presenting to a larger audience, full of complete strangers. He is always up for a challenge.
