My Artistic Voyage!

Course reflection

This semester in art, I think I did well overall. I could have worked harder to reach my full potential, as virtual and in person school was hard for me to stay engaged. I feel that I did much better at transfering the image in my head to paper when I was working on a project I felt passionate about. I enjoyed learning how to create value with paint as well as working with charcoal and graphite. I also greatly improved how I shaded with colored pencil. I learned that communicating my feelings through my art can be therapeutic as well as a good way for me to comunicate how I feel when I can't find the words to decribe it.

Memory Project

Medium(s): Colored Pencils

I loved the idea of doing a realistic drawing with colored pencils. I found the topic interesting and thought provoking. I think I did well, although, I wish I had planned it out more so that the execution could have been better.

Recovery

Medium(s): Color pencils, Charcoal, Graphite

I, myself, have struggled with depression and anxiety for several years and have just recently discovered a process of recovery. I decided that for my social injustice project that I wanted to focus on the stigma surrounding mental health. This piece for me, symbolizes recovery and how difficult and dark it can seem. My object was the ball and chain; which, for me, represents the way that depression seems like a massive weight pulling you down. The vines and flower symbolize growth and love. I feel I did well on this project, although, I would add more contrast if I could change this.

Candy Painting

Medium(s): Acrylic Paint

This was a challenging piece for me to pull off because I have only used acrylic paint in the style of pop art. It was also challenging to get my gummy bears to have a translucent look that tradiotional gummy bears do. I feel that this piece has stretched me as an artist and helped me learn how to adapt to new mediums.
