Recognizing Black History Month and Black History All Year Long

Black History Month is the month of February. This month advisories participated in an exploration of Black History and current figures. We also had two special guests join us in an online panel to discuss how Black History inspires them as artists and entrepreneurs.

The Struggle to Teach Students Voter Rights

The Zinn Education Project offers a crucial resource on Voter Rights that delves into the alarming trend where states are attempting to restrict the teaching of voting rights and their impacts on marginalized communities. This resource sheds light on the legislative efforts to limit educational discussions about the history of voting rights, disenfranchisement, and the struggles faced by marginalized groups. It provides educators with essential tools to navigate these challenges, offering a comprehensive understanding of the historical context surrounding voting rights in the United States. By highlighting the attempts to suppress this vital knowledge, the resource empowers educators to foster critical thinking skills and encourage students to engage with the democratic process despite the obstacles imposed by these restrictive laws.

Indigenous Culture Preservation and History

Through years of colonization and current injustices, there is a significant amount of Indigenous Culture that has been excluded from main stream resources. Fortunately, there are growing efforts among tribes to preserve and sustain their culture throughout future generations. Below are resources that have been gathered, with permission, to share with students and educators at Thetford Academy.
