What are the different types of support available for children with SEND?
Quality First Teaching (QFT) - High quality, inclusive teaching for all.
Reasonable adjustments, including use of Chromebook, Exam Access Arrangements, early leave passes, toilet passes, coloured resources
Small group interventions if identified as appropriate and effective for that child. These may include:
Handwriting Club
Lexia Reading
Speech Bubble
SpLD Support
Bespoke Accelerated Curriculum for students who are not Key Stage 3 ready
Key Stage 4 Preparing for Adulthood intervention
Most students identified as having SEND will have a Keyworker
Dedicated SEND base (SSC - Student Support Centre) for unstructured times, interventions and a safe space for time out
TA Support assigned to classes where there are children with more complex needs who are unable to work independently, usually with an EHCP
SEND Support Profile - including strategies and barriers shared with all staff
The Student Support Centre (SSC)
How is extra support allocated to students?
If a student has an EHCP, we first identify any support or interventions required through ‘Section F’ of the plan
For those without an EHCP, appropriate support is offered on a need by need basis. Students may be identified as needing support through having difficulties with accessing lessons, difficulties with friendships or through a member of staff raising a concern
In the first instance, TA support in lessons is allocated to those with an EHCP. However, Teaching Assistants may also be directed by the teacher to support others in the classroom should they need it
Support and interventions are flexible. They can be reduced if a student sustains their progress or can be reinstated if needed
How will you measure the progress of my child in school?
Every child is different, as are their needs, so progress is measured in a variety of ways:
Academic data
Improved attendance or reduced number of late marks
Improved friendships - fewer conflicts
Progress in classroom behaviour and attitude to learning - asking for help, bringing all equipment (organisation), improved presentation, quality and quantity of work
Behaviour points
Improved confidence and self-esteem
