Course Design

Whether you're teaching on-campus or online, the Instructional Designer (ID) is always available to help you optimize your course design and delivery in service of providing the best possible teaching and learning experiences for faculty and students at The Seattle School.  To schedule a consultation, contact Katie Clum at kclum@theseattleschool.edu. 

• Populi:

  • Set up brand new courses

  • Create course shells or 'sandboxes' for instructors to experiment with on their own

  • Make changes to existing courses and/or cloning course sections from prior iterations of a course

  • Troubleshoot bugs or issues with the platform and/or reach out to the Populi support team on your behalf to find answers

  • Audit existing Populi courses and consult on any suggested changes or opportunities for enhancement

• Assignment Creation/Gradebook Setup:

  • Set up assignments and assignment groupings

  • Set up weights and percentages for assignments and assignment groupings

  • Consult on ways to structure the assignment for streamlined student submission and/or creative engagement and/or meeting learning objectives

  • Consult on creating rubrics for assignment grading

• Learning Material Creation & Curation

  • Support in the creation of learning materials in order to optimize  student engagement (e.g. lecture recordings, presentations, student reading activities)

  • Support in the creation of learning materials which are appropriately flexible/customized to meet needs for student accommodations

  • Source OER tools to encourage engaging learning activities (group polling, virtual whiteboards, virtual meeting rooms, etc.)

• Modality Consultation:

  • Collaborate on finding ways to best engage students according to class size

  • Collaborate on finding ways to best engage students according to modality (on campus, online, hybrid)

  • Collaborate on finding ways to best use instruction time for long course sections

Software Assistance:

• • Offer training and/or connect to resources/references supporting the use of Zoom as an instructor

  • Offer training and/or connect to resources/references supporting the use of Google Suite as an instructor

  • Offer training and/or connect to resources/references supporting the use of popular online platforms like YouTube

  • Discuss and support future needs for software integrations with Populi
