About the Speaker
Sheila Leigh Stewart was born February 28, 1969, in Fairfield County, South Carolina to the union of Mr. Henry Stewart Sr. and Mrs. Dorothy Stewart. Sheila was nurtured in a Christian home where both she and her siblings were reared to reverence God. At an early age, Sheila surrendered her life to Christ and was baptized at The New Independent Methodist Church, Great Falls, South Carolina.
Sheila attended the public schools of Great Falls, South Carolina. Sheila continued her pursuit in education and attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Following graduation from Benedict College Sheila became a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina where she was employed as the News/Community Affairs Director on WQQK-FM. With high aspirations to operate in her gift, Sheila relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1995. While in Charlotte, Sheila worked as a Reporter/Anchor for CBS Affiliate WBTV News 3; guest appearances on TV Networks NBC, ABC, Fox News; News Director of CBS Radio WPEG-FM; Correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks; ABC Radio News and National News and Anchor for Syndication One Radio News Networks. While in Charlotte, Sheila taught as an adjunct Professor at Johnson C. Smith University and as an Instructor at The Chatty School of Communications. One of the great highlights of her commitment in education is that many of her students are currently working in broadcast media throughout the United States of America. Sheila's stay in Charlotte proved to be very productive.
In the year 2005, Sheila relocated to our nation's Capital, Washington, D. C., where she continued to be employed as the director of News and Commu- nity Affairs on Radio One. While in Washington, D. C., Sheila did not ignore her spiritual growth. She became a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden under the pastoral leadership of Pastor John and Trina Jenkins.
"Sheila Stewart," as she was so affectionately known, lived a life of dedication to people. She was a "Lady" filled with the desire to succeed at everything she set out to do. She was a thriving leader, community activist, mentor, motivator, friend, mother, daughter, sister and much more. She was a Godly woman. She touched the lives of many and leaves a legacy to be remembered for many generations to come. She was a matriarch in South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Washington D. C. and surrounding communities. Sheila will be missed, but not forgotten. One of the most important aspects of Sheila's life aside from anything else was she loved people and loved to see young women and men succeed. Sheila believed that every individual held his or her own fate in the palm of their hands and could achieve anything they desired in life.
God made an investment in Sheila as she became an award winning media conglomerate whose career as a Radio, TV and Print Media Personality spans over 25 years.
