We have worked closely with a handful of professionals to make sure this process is the easiest as possible for anyone that wants to record in our studio.
By adding video to your podcast you can really show off your personality and allows you to share it in more places.
If you have not used the studio before, we recommend arriving a few minutes early to get familiar with the setup.
First, we will want to make sure the Mixer is powered on, once it’s on you will see the main screen light up:
Then try speaking into the microphone, we will want to see this audio level bouncing around the 5th notch up on the display, use the mixer volume slider to adjust:
Once your microphone levels are adjusted, let's move on to the video.
When adding video, we have to remember that we are not only recording studio quality audio, we need to make sure the video is in sync with the audio, we will use our computer to automatically combine the two into a file for you to upload and share.
Our computer has our program we will use preinstalled, this is called Wirecast by Telestream, start by launching the program:
Once the program loads, select our Preset we have already configured, you'll want to make sure the Webcam is plugged in to the computer through USB first, our preset is titled Podcast Studio with Video:
When this loads you will see the Wirecast workspace, here you will see a Preview of your recording, what you are Recording (Live), and your Audio and Video sources:
You are now set to begin recording, let's walk you through a bit more of what we're seeing on the screen!
On the Wirecast screen you will see a Preview on the left hand side and a Live (Recording) view on the right, the right side will show you what you are about to record:
Before you begin recording, we will want to make sure everything is set with your Live view, to test this, left click both the Webcam and the Audio from the workspace, you should see a dot on each source showing they are enabled:
Underneath your Preview/Live views, let's click the Arrow to send it from Preview to Live:
You should see both the Preview and Live displaying the webcam angle:
Video looks great, now let's make sure the audio is working for our recording, the Speaker icon will show that audio is set to be captured in your recording (this will be Yellow when it's on), you can preview your audio by selecting the Headphones icon (be careful if the speakers are too loud, you will hear a feedback loop, turn off after preview to make sure you don't hear the loop in your recording):
Almost there, video is looking great, audio is coming through in your recording, you're now ready to begin! To start your recording, press the Record button at the top, it will now automatically start recording, you will see this change to green and the clock will begin moving up:
When you are finished, click the Record button again and it will stop:
If you left the default name and file location the same, you will find your video under PC in the folder Videos, if you renamed and changed the location please browse to the folder you had saved this to.
To find the default location, double click This PC on the desktop:
In the new window, double click the Videos folder:
You will now see your video in this folder, the default name is MyStream, if there is more than one file you will see these numbered:
Feel free to transfer to your flash drive or email the file to yourself, once you are finished we recommend deleting the file:
When finished, feel free to close out of Wirecast, no need to save any changes, and remember to log out of any email accounts you may have signed into!
Congratulations, you have now created a Video with amazing Audio right in our Podcast Studio, way to go!
PRO TIP: If you want to record a video with audio as well as a separate audio recording (for a Podcast), use the MicroSD Card method outlined in the article Recording a Podcast at the same time, the mixer will record a separate audio file and the computer will take care of the video+audio file.
