Letters from John: Surefruit
This Sunday, we begin a new series through the letters of John—the same Apostle who authored the Gospel of John and the book of Revelation. We will be walking through 1, 2, and 3 John together.
First John reads more like a sermon than a letter, which makes sense; the Apostle John was a pastor, and his heart for his people shines through every verse. This book is a pastoral "check-up" for the soul, written to a community facing the confusion of false teaching and fading fervor. One of the primary themes of the letter is Assurance. John shows us that assurance and joy are intrinsically linked: as our confidence in our salvation increases, so does our joy—regardless of our circumstances.
Pastor Andy has entitled this series, "Sure Fruit." Assurance is more than just an inner, subjective feeling; it is something verified by the "fruit" we produce. John describes the salvation experience as "fellowship with God," and his rationale is simple: if we have genuine fellowship with God, we will produce fruit.
In this, John is clearly leaning on the words of Jesus that he recorded in John 15: Abide in the Vine, and you will bear much fruit. John is teaching us how to be "fruit inspectors" of our own lives. He doesn't use a straight-line argument; instead, he uses a cyclical pattern—circling back again and again to the three great tests of authentic Christianity:
The Moral Test (walking in light)
The Social Test (loving the brothers)
The Doctrinal Test (confessing Jesus as Christ come in the flesh)
By weaving together the themes of Light, Love, and Life, John seeks to move us from mere profession to a "settled assurance." He proves that a true encounter with the "Word of Life" inevitably produces a life that looks like the Savior!

No Perfect Marriages [managing expectations + learning new strategies for success] is the theme of this year’s Married Night In PLUS a 10 week “class” that Pastor Andy & Luanne will be facilitating following MNI. The content for both comes from a great little book by that name, written by Mark and Jill Savage. Pastor Andy called this "some of the most practical marriage content that I have ever come across." It is solid strategies for cultivating a better, healthier, and more God-glorifying marriage. If you plan to participate (even if you can only come one week, join the Group below).
Family Dedications
Mother's Day, May 10th, during the Gathering
Every Mother's Day at The Point we have a time of Family Dedications. This is a time when families who have joined The Point or have added children to their family throughout the year are invited to make a formal commitment to raise their child in the knowledge of the Lord and we as a church family commit to supporting the parents to that end. You would be called on stage, an image of your child displayed on the screen, given a certificate and a gift Bible and prayed over at our service on May 10th.
If you have questions regarding the practice of Baby Dedications, we invite you to ask an Elder (elders@thepointcommunity.net).
If you would like to sign up to dedicate your child(ren) please complete the below link by April 30th.
