Paid Time Off

Paid Time Off

Full-time Instructional staff (teachers, teacher assistants, instructional interventionists) have build in vacation days during Fall Break, Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer Break.

It is a teacher's responsibility to attend required workshops and trainings to maintain the appropriate licensure for the position. Some of these trainings may occur during the summer break, and thus a teacher must plan accordingly.

Full-time, non-instructional staff have built in vacation days during Fall Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break. Please note, summer break constitutes 2 weeks of paid vacation during an agreed upon time with your supervisor. If an employee goes over the allotted sick days during the school year, vacation days will be deducted.

Personal days can only be used in 1/2 day or full day increments. CPLA does not pay any compensation for unused personal leave upon voluntary or involuntary termination of employment. CPLA employees are permitted to carry over unused personal leave from one fiscal year to the next.

Please refer to your specific calendar for information on available vacation days. These calendars vary by job functions within CPLA. If you have any questions about which calendar is associated with your role at CPLA, please clarify with Human Resources.

Personal Leave

After an employee has used all paid personal/sick leave, he/she will move into the unpaid leave status. Excessive unpaid leave absences may result in employee reprimand and/or termination of employment.

CPLA does not pay any compensation for unused personal/sick leave upon voluntary or involuntary termination of employment, and employees are not permitted to carry over unused sick leave from one fiscal year to the next. If an employee's absence is covered y the FMLA, that employee should follow the procedures set forth in that policy.

Employees may be required to provide a doctor's note(s) to explain their absences. If requested, employees should turn the note(s) into Human Resources within three days of their return to work.

Bereavement Leave

Full-time and part-time regular employees are eligible, immediately upon hire, for paid bereavement days.

8 days: Immediate family (legal spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild)

4 days: Extended family (father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, grandparent, grandchild)

Employees are allowed up to ½ day of bereavement leave to attend the funeral of a fellow employee, retiree, student, student’s household family, or alumni of the school, provided such absence from duty will not interfere with normal operations of the school.

Requests for bereavement leave should be made to your supervisor as soon as possible. Employees should use additional personal days when an extension of bereavement time is needed. Bereavement days cannot be exchanged for sick or vacation days. CPLA reserves the right to request written verification of an employee's familial relationship to the deceased and his or her attendance at the funeral service, or related event, as a condition of the bereavement pay.

CPLA normally observes the following holidays for ALL employees throughout the year. Additional holidays are determined by your employment category. Please refer to your specific calendar for your specific calendar for your schedule.
