3. USSCMC "Club 420" Program
An external club program using the same boats and racing style (with added gear like spinnakers). It serves as a great development pipeline, and some high school sailors participate in both! This is seperate from Pine School Sailing but is offered at USSCMC.
Travel: Families typically coordinate carpools for practices and regattas to make the commute easy.
Gear & Apparel:
Helmets: Provided by USSCMC.
PFDs (Lifejackets): You can use USSCMC lifejackets initially. When buying your own, look for a low-profile, athletic PFD rather than a bulky motorboat version (wait until you visit to try styles).
Footwear & Hands: Any sneakers will do! Bring a pair of gloves, inexpensive gardening gloves work great to protect your hands from rope burn.
Financial Support: There is a registration fee through USSCMC. However, The Pine School is committed to supporting our athletes. If the fee is a barrier to joining, partial school contributions are available to help get you on the water.
