Carine is a Specialist Occupational Therapist with over 12 years of clinical experience, dedicated to working with children and young people with cognitive, environmental, and sensory needs. She provides specialised services in the areas of neurodiversity and mental health, supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, eating difficulties, and related co-existing diagnoses. Carine is known for her experience in working with patients undergoing diagnostic investigations, often managing complex and co-occurring cases with empathy and attentiveness. Throughout her career, Carine has been recognised for her excellence in comprehensive, specialised assessments, particularly in Ayres Sensory Integration. She is internationally certified to conduct sensory assessments and is experienced in using standardised tools such as the EASI (Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration) and SPM (Sensory Profile Measure). Her work includes prescribing sensory accommodation equipment, adapting home and school environments, and developing individualised therapeutic support plans. Additionally, Carine has expertise in using specific tools to develop therapeutic objectives and outcome measures, ensuring the creation of robust, effective 1:1 intervention plans tailored to the specific needs of each patient.
Holding a Master’s in Mental Health, Carine takes a holistic and integrated approach to care, promoting functional gains and quality of life while considering the multiple variables involved in human development. She is always attentive to the complexities and challenges her patients face, including the needs of their families and caregivers. Carine maintains an open dialogue, understanding the close relationship between the well-being of the child or young person and their family or caregivers.
Carine is also a strong advocate for continuous professional development, actively participating in study groups and research. As a member of the ASI Wise development group, she collaborates in the dissemination and promotion of the Sensory Ladders, an innovative tool designed to advance the field of Sensory Integration and improve the quality of life for individuals with sensory challenges. "We worked with Carine over an eight-session block when our son was three turning four, seeking support with sensory overwhelm, sensitivity to noise, biting and becoming overly physical when dysregulated. Using Ayres Sensory Integration® and later the Sensory Ladder, Carine created playful, engaging sessions that helped him build regulation skills through movement, sensory experiences and carefully structured activities. Our son loved attending and always looked forward to the sessions.
The impact has been very significant. Six months later, the behaviours that originally concerned us are much less frequent (if at all!) and far better contained. Carine also provided invaluable support to us as parents, helping us understand our son’s sensory profile and giving us practical tools to use at home and school from weightballs to swings to using our cushions as crash matts etc. His teachers also noticed a marked improvement in his regulation, engagement and ability to cope within the classroom environment.
