Welcome from Ms C Briggs, SENCo
Welcome to the Inclusion page of the Year 9 Guided Choices website. Here at TKA, we are passionate about our inclusive ethos and ensuring that all pupils are equipped with the skills and resources to succeed. I hope that the information below about the support available to out Key Stage 4 pupils will be informative and enlightening.
If you have any further questions, please reach out to your child's key worker, if they have been assigned one, or their form tutor in the first instance.
SRP Pupils
Pupils in the SRP will continue to have their bespoke interventions. These can be discussed with Mr Stenning, our SRP Lead as part of making decisions on Year 10 choices.
Support in lessons
Once we know students’ timetables, The SENCo and SRP lead will set a timetable of support. This in-class support from Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants will be prioritised to pupils with an EHCP. This support will be shared support to help develop pupil independence unless 1-1 support is stipulated in an EHCP. All staff have been trained in maximising the impact of TAs with a focus on Quality First Teaching as the best way to meet most SEND needs. Core subjects will also be a priority for TA support.
Interventions
The Inclusion team will run interventions at lunchtime, before and after school for identified pupils to meet individual needs.
Extra time and other Exams Access Arrangements
A list of these arrangements can be viewed below. Access Arrangements allow learners with additional needs to achieve their potential without changing the demands of the assessment. Pupils who are identified on our Special Educational Needs Register and any other pupil identified by parents or staff will be tested for Exam Access Arrangements. This happens in Year 10 and is carried out by our external assessor. Evidence is gathered and applications made to JCQ who oversee the Exam Arrangements.
