Today: World Heritage Site

and the Order of Mapungubwe

Today, no-one lives at Mapungubwe. The site tells us so much about how African farmers lived long ago. Today, the area where the town once stood is now protected. The objects found at Mapungubwe are a valuable part of our heritage. Mapungubwe has been declared a World Heritage Site. World Heritage Sites recognise and protect areas of outstanding natural, historical and cultural value.

Unit 5. Order of Mapungubwe.pdf

Order of Mapungubwe

During its time, Mapungubwe represented excellence of human thought and ingenuity. The Order of Mapungubwe is a special award given to people who have served our country. See a real example of someone who has received the Order of Mapungubwe, a HUGE honour.

Thokozani Majozi was awarded a Bronze Order of Mapungubwe, which recognises South Africans who have accomplished excellence and exceptional achievement to the benefit of South Africa and beyond. He received the award for his outstanding contribution to science, particularly the development of a novel mathematical technique for near-zero-effluent batch chemical facilities, which enables the better re-use of wastewater.
