K Library Goals

Practice using a library effectively and responsibly.

Practice listening skills and beginning reader skills (predicting, inference, connecting text & illustrations).

Begin to differentiate between fiction and nonfiction and develop reader choice.

About Check Out

K check out begins after we learn all the procedures (usually around October).

K students will be able to check out 1 book from the Easy shelves

After Christmas students will be able to choose from a selection of nonfiction books and the Easy shelves.

1st Grade Library Goals

Practice using a library effectively and responsibly.

Practice listening skills and beginning reader skills (predicting, inference, connecting text & illustrations).

Increase ability to differentiate between fiction and nonfiction and develop reader choice.

About Check Out

1st Grade readers may check out 1 book from the Easy shelves.

Beginning in September (once we learn about the Dewey section) readers may also choose from the Dewey shelves.

2nd Grade Library Goals

Continue to grow as a reader by developing the ability to choose resources effectively and use them responsibly.

Develop an understanding of genres in fiction and types and elements of nonfiction.

About Check Out

2nd Grade readers may check out 1 book from the Easy or Dewey shelves.

Beginning after Christmas, readers may also choose from the chapter book (JF) section.
