Grass Stains and Gorp a blog from an award winning DECA educator who keeps it real and enjoys nature activities in the summer with her kiddos.
-Google “Backyard Scavenger Hunt” and to find regional/seasonal checklists.
-Start a rock collection. Or find some bugs. Make leaf or bark imprint rubbings. Daisy chains. Or grass chains. Or build a miniature landscape/fairyscape in a shoebox.
-Float cork boats down a local stream/creek/puddle (Picture in comments)
-Go in a wooded area to build a fort! You can bring a tarp and rope for extra help but just sticks work too! (Picture in comments)
-Use vegetable scraps (beets, onion peels, cabbage, blueberries) to dye eggs
-Build a “bug hotel.” Use an old drawer, box or tub. Fill it with leaves, sticks, dirt, empty TP rolls, etc. Come back in a few days and see who came to visit!
-Use yarn to weave a spider web around trees or other obstacles. Then try your hand at passing through the web without “getting caught.” (Picture in comments)
-Make seed bombs with native flower seeds.
-Create feeders for birds or squirrels.
-Make mud pies!
-Paint leaves and use them as stamps to make a cool print.
-Make fairy houses
