2021 LOCKDOWN GALLERY

As our fantastic students return to remote learning, they continue to demonstrate the virtues of pride, ambition and resilience with their work.

We proudly add to our 'Lockdown Gallery' to share and showcase their creativity.

"Type is a designer's best friend" - Lester Beale

Origami helps develop our hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, problem-solving and mental concentration. All great for our three-dimensional design course!

Three-dimensional Design students have been resourceful: modelling with materials available at home.

These fun 3D critters respond to our bug themed project.

2020 LOCKDOWN GALLERY

Around the world, the history of our present moment
is taking shape in personal projects to express creativity.

Our Design & Technology students have been given various
projects to complete whilst working at home during 'lockdown'.

Here we share some examples of their creative design solutions!

Some students simply enjoyed being creative as a way to relax and spend time positively.

We are very proud of all of our students who have been resilient whilst working at home.

Planter Project

This project was given to the year 8s so that they would be able to create a prototype at home from recyclable materials, because the normal workshop facilities were not available. They had to research recycling of plastics, and alternative methods of farming using planters. A client was created (usually a member of the family), and a planter designed and made for them that met all their needs.

Bored? Invent your own Board Game!

Year 7 were set a project to invent their own new board game, that would amuse people stuck at home in lockdown. First, they had to research and evaluate existing board games, analysing what was good (or not so good) about each one. The next task was to work on initial designs for a new game. When they had worked up a final design they then had to create a full sized model or finished presentation drawing of their game.

Design Your Own Dinner

For over 30 years, top Japanese chef Itsuo Kobayashi has created beautiful coloured drawings of the meals that he has cooked. He adds captions to describe the ingredients, tastes, aromas and appearance of the food. As part of their Food Technology curriculum, the year 7 students were asked to make a coloured drawing of either their favourite meal, or a recipe they have invented themselves. The labels on their work describe the food, and also explain how their meal fits in with the Eatwell Guide, a government guide to what you should be eating daily for a healthy diet.

Design Your Own Resort!

Nobody is going away this summer, so the next best thing was to think up your own resort that would have all the attractions you ever wanted. The year 7s had to consider all the essentials-where is the resort, how do you get there, where do you stay, what activities are there to do, what can you do in the evenings.... once they had considered these needs, they then drew up a plan of their ideal resort.
