Candidate List From: https://ballotpedia.org/Washington%27s_4th_Congressional_District
As a member of the political integrity movement following the Political Integrity Project, I am hoping to invite all candidates for Washington's 4th congressional district (Including Yakima, Tri-Cities, Moses Lake and more) to take the Political Integrity Pledge:
No Corporate PAC Money
Pledge to never accept contributions from any corporate PAC or operate a leadership PAC that accepts corporate money. Does not apply to PACs sponsored by labor unions or grassroots membership organizations.
Congressional Stock Trading Ban
Pledge to place all individual stocks, bonds, commodities, cryptocurrencies, and investment assets into a qualified blind trust or divest completely, and support a bill mandating members and their spouses do the same. Only diversified mutual funds/ETFs, U.S. Treasury bonds, municipal bonds, and bank accounts are permitted.
Close the Revolving Door
Pledge to support a two-year ban on direct lobbying and a five-year ban on behind-the-scenes lobbying, strategic consulting for lobbying firms, or foreign government representation after leaving office. Applies to members, senior staff, and their spouses.
Overturn Citizens United
Pledge to support a Constitutional amendment to overturn the impacts of the Citizens United Supreme Court case.
The Political Integrity Project makes financial data about politicians easily accessible on their website integrityindex.us. Integrity Index financial data is sourced from public sources such as the Federal Election Commission (FEC), U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE), and Congress.gov.
If you are a resident of Washington's 4th district and would like to support a public invitation for congressional candidates to take the Political Integrity Pledge, you can join a petition at Bring Political Integrity to Washington's 4th District. Change.org may ask for money to promote the petition on the site. DON'T FEEL PRESSURED TO DONATE MONEY, I AM NOT ASKING FOR MONEY. Politicians are supposed to represent us, not corporations. Its time we remind them. With any luck, candidates will take the political integrity pledge before they get the majority of their funding in the general election.
Additionally, any person in the country can join The Donor Strike, promising not to donate any money to politicians who take corporate PAC money. Even today, politicians get the majority of their money from individuals, so if enough people pledge not to support a politician who takes corporate PAC money, it creates a real incentive to reject opportunities for rejecting conflicts of interest. The Donor Strike is still small at the time of writing this, so ever signature counts.
I, Andrew Hieber, life-long Yakima resident, in the pursuit of promoting the political integrity pledge, will be giving a speech on the 15th of July outlining the need for integrity in political campaign finance, congressional stock trading, the need for restrictions on lobbying for former members of congress and the necessity of implementing a constitutional amendment banning corporations from donating to political campaigns. I am not a candidate for this congressional race, nor am I of voting-age. Despite this, I feel as a student at Davis High School I have a civic-responsibility to teach to my fellow citizens how to view public finance data and to spread the political integrity movement to Yakima.
