Personality Disorders have long been an enigma for therapists. What do you do? How do you identify them with any clarity? Is there any treatment for clients living with them? This training will give an overview of current thought on Personality Disorders and their diagnosis. It will look at diagnosis based upon the DSM 5, and will review current research on viable treatments currently available. Time will be spent on looking at Borderline Personality Disorder, what is known about its origins, impairments, biology, and treatment, and how to remove the stigma associated with the diagnosis.

About the instructor:
Emilie Smith has a Bachelor Degree in Social Science - Psychology from Marylhurst University, and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College, Graduate School of Professional Studies. She has worked in Community Mental Health and had a private practice. She learned Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) from its developer, Dr. Marsha Linehan, and has run DBT programs in various agencies and has trained multiple clinicians in its use. At The Grief Center she works with adults and older teens, both with individual and group therapy, as well as presents multiple CEU trainings throughout the year.
