“Work Work Work”

Work never ends. Everyone is busy with some work. This reminds me of one of my students who saw his mother cutting ‘bhindies’ at night for the next day’s preparation. He went and woke his father up and together they helped her cut the ‘bhindies’, when asked he said he is practicing the habits taught from ‘The 7 Habits of Happy Kids’ the habit-6 Synergise ‘Together is better’..... He tried to explain his parents that ‘if we do the work together, we’ll be a team and can complete the work quickly’. It amazed me when i heard the story…..What a wonderful thing that a 5 year old is able to reflect back home the 7 Habits and implement upon it by practicing it. And was able to influence his parents to learn more about it.

This is what the Habits have done in each one in the school, whether teachers or students each one is reflecting the habits and also influencing others to do so.

From ‘The 7 Habits of Happy Kids’ to ‘The Leader in Me’, there are numerous strategies to help you get focused and develop character quickly. All the Habits involve highly effective concentrated productivity in one’s life. It has helped me to practice all the habits, as I was teaching the students I could practice the habits and develop them in my day to day life.

THE LEADER IN ME

The Leader In Me is not an event or curriculum, it's ubiquitous leadership development.Over past three months 7 habits are embodied through every activity we do in our class and even younger students have started realizing the importance and value of these habits.

I would love to share my experience of Reading aloud a story of "Elmer and The Lost Teddy" in our UKG class. Before that synopsis of the story: Baby Elephant can't sleep because he has lost his teddy so Elmer the Elephant sets off to look for it and eventually finds it.

After having finished reading the story, I asked students "How will you relate this story with 7 habits? To my surprise the students came up with the following answers:-

-Elmer was PROACTIVE,because he promised the baby elephant to find its teddy.

-Elmer helped his friend (baby elephant) by following Habit 4 THINK WIN-WIN.

-Elmer made a plan to find teddy of baby elephant through Habit 2 BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND.

The Leader In Me initiative has transformed the school culture, operations and its ideology. It is also transforming the teachers and students to take on the challenges of tomorrow and succeed.
