I am trained as a computer programmer with 15 years of industry technical experience and 27 educational technology experience. And I have had the pleasure of driving numerous programming projects during my professional tenure. None, however, made an impact on my life like the assignment I received from a principal in the Aldine Independent School District. The district had recently purchased some educational software and needed someone to spearhead the initiative to recover students who dropped out of school. Armed with a fundamental knowledge of this software, coupled with a tenacious drive to reclaim this seemingly forgotten student population, I developed an after-school community lab with 35 functional computer stations for students and an additional lab where the community was taught technology. Several years later, the experiences I had with those students and adults in that community computer lab pushed me to found GeriTechs, LLC, a technology-based company that was designed to serve another seemingly forgotten population: seniors.
In much the same way that the opportunity to teach children and adults about technology found me, the opportunity to train seniors about technology found me as well – but this time in 2020 during the pandemic. I was sitting at home when one of my associates called me to help her resolve a basic technology issue. That interaction led to another similar and another. Then, I realized that there was a need for a technology company that could demystify fundamental technical issues seniors and help them improve their quality of life and function as whole citizens during a hard pandemic. GeriTechs, LLC, was birthed from this need. In short, GeriTechs, is the manifestation of a passion to empower people with technology appreciation.
GeriTechs, functions from one primary tenet: no one is too mature to learn technology. GeriTechs specializes in training people about the value of being armed with a working knowledge of technology. My company reduces technology to its lowest common denominator and empowers people to learn the benefits about how technology can improve the quality of life. My focus is to leave no motivated person behind. I want everyone to engage in the digital world and use it as a stepping stone to a more enhanced life. What started as a company to empower seniors has now expanded to a company that trains people of diverse age demographics.
GeriTechs, is fundamentally a gateway company that demystifies technology for people of all ages. We offer a comfortable and safe virtual experience that caters to the knowledge level of all clients. In this warm virtual setting, no question is too big or small, and we do not judge people based skill level. We simply meet people where they are, train them to a knowledge comfortable for them, and watch them develop a confidence about technology that moves them forward. Equipping people to function in life more efficiently and effectively is the goal of GeriTechs.
