Pre-Season Events - We will host an informal get together as well as group trail rides so students can meet returning athletes, coaches, and other members of their mountain biking community. See the Events tab for more info!
Fall Practices - We will begin hosting practices in November once a week for students who have registered with NICA.
Registration Deadline - 1/31/2024 - This is the final date to join the team. By this date, you must register with NICA and pay the associated league fees. See more below.
Spring Practice - After things thaw post winter break, we will practice twice a week. We will determine a practice schedule before the registration deadline.
Spring Race Series - Weekend races are the best! Students race against other kids their age in races ranging from 3.5 to 15 miles. Race courses are all beginner friendly. Saturday is the day to practice and pre-ride the course, as well as camp together with the team, and then Sunday is race day. We will add dates when the race calendar is set!
NICA races are FUN! These are weekend events with a couple thousand people in attendance. The league has over 800 registered athletes in grades 6 - 12, who all compete against their age and genders. Field size is generally between 25 - 50 riders each race.
These races are two day events, generally between 2 - 5 hours away, so we usually camp as a team. Camping is usually very low cost and fun, we do potluck meals and the kids have a blast. Saturday is for practice and learning the course; Sunday is race day and races start at 8:00. Generally the team is packed up and headed home by 3:00, with some families going home sooner.
There are 6 races in the season, beginning in March. Races cost $25 to sign up for. Students do not need to compete in all the races and can go to just what their calendars allow.
NC NICA dues are $220 for the season and $25 for each race. Our team fund raising will cover a basic t-shirt style jersey, with nicer team kits being available for additional costs. We strive to keep this sport accessible to all our students, so please reach out of league dues are a barrier to entry for you; scholarships are available.
Additionally, all students are expected to have their own and maintain a mountain bike. We are happy to help you find a bike at a reasonable cost, and can always be a resource for its upkeep.
