Join Fletcher's Team for the Virtual Dyslexia Dash

• The Fletcher School is participating in the Virtual Dyslexia Dash 2023 as part of National Dyslexia Awareness Month. Join Fletcher's Virtual Team and register here. The password is: Falcons2023 

• Virtual race participants will run or walk their own course and can post their times via the Dyslexia Dash website if they wish. As soon as you register, you can run or walk the race. Virtual participants will receive their race t-shirts through the mail the week of October 23.

• If you want to share a picture of you running or walking with friends and family, email your photos to Beth Levanti at blevanti@thefletcherschool.org by Monday, October 23, for Fletcher's social media.
  
  

Join Us for a Screening of Blame It On Gutenberg & Panel Discussion 

• Join The Fletcher School and IDA NC for a screening of the documentary Blame It On Gutenberg on Saturday, November 4, at 9 am, at the Independent Picture House.

• Blame It On Gutenberg is a powerful film about the evolving science of Dyslexia, theories of how to teach reading, and one family’s struggle with their school system.

• A panel discussion will follow including the Filmmaker and Producer, Rob DelGaudio, Kristin Lane, Fletcher's Orton-Gillingham Fellow, Terri Queen, NC DPI Literacy Consultant, Ann Jolly, UNC Charlotte University Supervisor & Clinical Assistant Professor, and Melissa Mascari, Nationally Certified School Psychologist at Concord Middle School.
  
  

Save the Date for K-5 Grandfriends Day - Email Us Grandfriends' Addresses

• Please save the date for Grandfriends Day on Friday, November 17, from 9:30-11:30 am. We hope your students’ grandparent(s), aunt(s), uncle(s), or other friend(s) can join us for this Fletcher tradition!

• Please email Claire Renn at crenn@thefletcherschool.org with the name, address, and email address of the grandfriend(s) you would like to receive an invitation.

Open House Registration - Tell a Friend!

• The October 2023-2024 Admissions Open House dates are open for registration.

• Your referrals are often the inquiries that become students at Fletcher. Please share our list of Open Houses with anyone who asks about our program, and encourage them to register.

• Registration for The Fletcher School’s Before and After School Winter Activities is open through Friday, October 13.

Deadline Extended to Submit Your Yearbook Pride Ad - Friday, October 13

• For your child, a"Pride Ad" is an excellent way to show your love and affection. Seeing your message will bring a smile to your child's face as they remember your warmth and support!

Participate in Socktober Through October 27

• Socktober has kicked off! Socks are the number one requested item at shelters, so let’s help fulfill this need and give our neighbors a cozy winter. 

• Beta Club is collecting new socks in all sizes to help people who are unhoused. There are boxes in the foyers for sock collection. Socks will be collected through Friday, October 27. 

• Encourage students to wear silly socks on Fridays to show their support!

Lower School News

• Parents and guardians are welcome on campus for lunch! Please note these steps to join your child for lunch:

  • Notify your child’s homeroom teacher in advance.

  • Check in with the Raptor security system and wait for your child’s class in the front lobby.

  • You may bring a lunch or purchase a meal on your child’s account.

  • You may bring your child lunch, but do not bring food for any friends.

  • Enjoy lunch with your child at our Visitor's Table in the Dining Hall.

Upper School News

• Tuesday, October 10 - Upper School Parent Meet Up at Cafe Monte, 6700 Fairview Road, at 11:45 am, hosted by Parents' Council. Upper School parents, mark your calendars now! Parent volunteer Cari Berger, cariberger@icloud.com, is your contact.

• Twelfth grade field trip to District 57 on Friday, October 13. See this letter for details.

• October 27 is the last day to register for the Upper School trip to Atlanta, April 17-19. Click here to register. When the form asks for school, put in Fletcher, and enter North Carolina as the state. The trip will pop up next, and click “Register Student.” This trip is strongly recommended for all Upper School students.

• Congratulations to our Cross Country team for their tremendous efforts at the Finals!

  • Reilly A., seventh grade, came in tenth overall for the Middle School Boys Finals.

  • Ariel T., sixth grade, came in second overall for the Middle School Girls Finals. 

  • George P., ninth grade, came in seventh overall for the Varsity Finals.

  • Fletcher came in fifth overall for the conference for Middle School Boys and Varsity.
