Upcoming for October is our Future Planning with Guest Speaker and Director of Counseling and Social and Emotional Learning, Allie Konet. We will discuss pathways offered at the high school, help with how to plan, and Allie will talk to us about the college process.
At our September meeting we talked about procrastination, the cycle, and how to overcome the challenges. We discussed things we needed to do for our to do lists, and which ones we needed more support to make happen. Then we tried a new technique and talked about the things that we would like to see happen this year during Panther Table Talks
At our January meeting we discussed how connected executive functioning skills are; we are using these skills every day at home, school, work, etc. Some people even have routines in place that supports their executive functioning. Our counselor, Lydia, linked some resources at the end of the slideshow if you are searching for additional ways to practice and implement executive functions.
At our February meeting we talked about self love- specifically self care versus self soothing. Self soothing is something that makes you feel better in a particular moment. Self care is something that makes you feel better in the long run like eating healthy or working out. Sometimes we only have time for one or the other which is okay; as long as we are taking time to take care of ourselves.
At our March meeting we discussed resilience and how it connects to our Panther Pillar- Grit. Sometimes we are in frustrating situations that make us want to give up, but we talked about ways to push through the frustration and persevere. People found they already have a lot of systems in place to help manage tasks.
At our April meeting, we discussed empathy- particularly how to identify emotions in other people as well as ourselves. A lot of times it is difficult to identify specific emotions because in our minds we associate them with one another like stress and frustration. However, with lots of practice and thinking before we act, we have an easier time dealing with our current emotions.
