ইতিহাসের এক আশ্চর্য সন্ধিক্ষণে আমরা দাঁড়িয়ে আছি। ২০২০ সালের অন্তিমলগ্নে হয়তো আমরা স্বাগত জানাবো নিউ নর্মাল-কে। গ্লোবাল অতিমারীর কবলে আমরা আজ গৃহবন্দী। ঘোষিত হয়েছে দূরত্বের সামাজিকিকরণ। ভয়াবহ এই সামাজিক দূরায়নে আমরা বাধ্য হলাম নভেল করোনা ভাইরাসের (COVID 19 RNA VIRUS) সভ্যতা কাঁপানো বিধ্বংসী আগ্রাসনে। ২০১৯ সালের ডিসেম্বর মাস থেকে মধ্য চীনের হুবেই প্রদেশের উহান শহর থেকে আরম্ভ হয়ে গেছে পৃথিবীর পথে পথে মৃত্যুর মিছিল! অনাহারীর আর্তনাদ! কর্মহারার অসহায়তার যন্ত্রণা! রাষ্ট্রের আর প্রতিষ্ঠানের কাছে বোঝা হয়ে গেল অগণিত মানুষ। যাদের শেষ সম্বল করোনা ভাইরাস।

মহামারীতে পাল্টে যেতে থাকলো গ্লোবালাইজেশনের ধারনা, সাপ্লাই চেনের মডেল, আন্তর্জাতিক বানিজ্যের রূপরীতি। ফলে লক্ষ্যণীয় মাত্রায় নেমে যেতে থাকল দেশের জি.ডি.পি.। স্বাস্থ্য ও শিক্ষার বিপননের চেহারা প্রকাশ্যে রাস্তায় এসে দাঁড়ালো। মানুষের সঙ্গে মানুষের সম্পর্কের বিন্যাস অ-মানুষতার মুখের উপর চৈতন্যের দরজায় আগল তুলে দিলো। পাল্টে যেতে থাকলো পৃথিবী গ্রহের রাজনীতির সমীকরণ। সব স্পর্শ অতিমারীতে নিষিদ্ধ হলেও হিংসার স্পর্শ কিন্তু অটুট রইলো। উগ্র প্রশাসনিক হাতিয়ার প্রবল হয়ে উঠলো, শুনতে চাইল না শেষ উচ্চারণ মানুষের, — ‘আমার নিঃশ্বাস বন্ধ হয়ে আসছে! একটু জল!—’ মন্দা -মড়কে সবকিছুতেই আমরা ক্রমশ ঝাঁকে মিশে যেতে থাকলাম বিশ্বায়িত পরিসরে।

প্রশ্ন হল ‘সোশ্যাল ডিসটেন্সিং’ বা ‘সোশ্যাল সলিডারিটি’-র কথা বললেও মানবমুক্তির দিশা কোথায়? সবটাই কি কেবল ‘নেতিবাচক’? উত্তরে বলি— ‘না' 'ফ্রন্টলাইন ওয়ারিয়র' থেকে চিকিৎসক, নার্স, সহযোগী ও সহকারী সকল যোদ্ধারা মানুষের সঙ্গে আছেন। ছাত্রসমাজের একাংশ, স্বেচ্ছাসেবী মানুষেরা এবং অর্থনৈতিক পরিসরে অসংগঠিত শ্রমিকেরা লড়তে লড়তে লড়াইটা জারি রেখেছেন, যে কোনো মুহূর্তে আক্রান্ত হয়ে মৃত্যুমিছিলের শরিক হতে পারেন জেনেও।

মানুষের কাছে তাদের আবেদন—

মানুষ বড় একলা ,তুমি তাহার পাশে এসে দাঁড়াও ।

এসে দাঁড়াও, ভেসে দাঁড়াও এবং ভালোবেসে দাঁড়াও

মানুষ বড় কাঁদছে ,তুমি মানুষ হয়ে পাশে দাঁড়াও

Time runs out of joint as the year 2020 nears the end, popularising the catch phrase, ‘the new normal’. The pandemic forced us to quarantine ourselves to our homes and socialise distance. The fear of the Covid 19, RNA virus challenges the human civilisation as was never done before. Since December 2019, when it was first reported in the Wuhan in China, the Virus has spread all over the world, resulting in the never-ending procession of dead bodies, jobless youth and hungry helpless millions. As the Nation-States and its proud institutions reeled under the emergent situation, intellectuals began to question the concepts of globalisation, free economy, supply-chain models and international trade. The GDP of the States dwindled affecting the already poor infrastructural conditions of health and education. Human relations suffered as the individuals isolated themselves further, first from fear then from compulsion and finally from the Darwinian impulse of self-preservation, removing every trace of humane consideration in their treatment of their fellow sufferers. However, the relations of hatred remained as pronounced as before, in fact new means of structural violence were founded. From the depression to death, the globe seems to trot towards its own destruction.

The question now remains, how in this era of social or physical distancing leading to impugned social solidarity, we human beings can think of salvation or freedom both as individuals and as members of the community. Have we moved too far from being human? A smile of positivity beams upon us when we look at the ‘frontline warriors’, the doctors and the nurses, and appreciate their tireless and selfless endeavours. The songs of freedom can be heard from those quarters where individuals with limited means reach out to the have-nots and the unorganised workers continue to fight against the injustice. They seem to declare once again, that we can die, but our struggle and will to succeed will not.
