This term has been an incredibly busy and exciting one at Bedonwell, packed with lots of fun learning experiences and special events for our children. We were thrilled to welcome visitors from Charlton Athletic, who led a fantastic assembly all about respect, teamwork and making positive choices. The children were also full of excitement for Number Day, arriving in school in brilliant number-themed outfits and taking part in fun maths challenges and activities across the school. It has been wonderful to see so much creativity, enthusiasm and curiosity in every classroom.
We are so proud of how hard all of our children have been working this term and how much they are enjoying their learning. As we head into half term, we would like to say a big thank you to all our parents and carers for your continued support.
We wish everyone in the Bedonwell family a happy, restful and well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 24th February, ready for another exciting half term ahead!
On Monday 2nd February 2026, we had the great opportunity to meet a guide dog called Dukey and his trainer, Pat. We learnt lots of interesting facts about the important role guide dogs play, how they are trained, how long the training takes, and what happens to guide dogs when they finish their working life. We also had the chance to ask questions and even stroke Dukey, which was very exciting. It was a fascinating and memorable experience for everyone involved.
This week and last week, the children have been taking part in the RSPB National Birdwatch, looking out for different birds in our local area. They have been observing, counting, and talking about the birds they can spot in the playground and around the school, developing their curiosity about nature and the environment. It has been a great opportunity for them to practise their observation skills, learn new bird names, and understand why it is important to protect wildlife
We are thrilled to announce that, for the second year running, our Infant and Nursery School has been awarded the David Attenborough School for Nature Award! This prestigious recognition celebrates our commitment to outdoor learning and our ongoing work with the RSPB and other conservation initiatives. From exploring nature in our school grounds to participating in wildlife and environmental projects, our children are actively developing a love and respect for the natural world. This award is a wonderful acknowledgment of the dedication of both our staff and pupils to learning through nature and making a positive impact on our environment.
We were delighted to take part in NSPCC Number Day, and it was a truly fantastic celebration of maths across the school. The children arrived full of excitement, dressed either as rockstars from Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) or in creative number-themed outfits, and the costumes were absolutely brilliant. There were sparkling numbers, clever mathematical jokes, and colourful designs that showed just how imaginative everyone was.
Throughout the day, the children took part in a wide range of fun and engaging Number Day maths activities. They explored number challenges, puzzles, games, and problem-solving tasks that helped bring maths to life in an enjoyable and hands-on way. The classrooms were buzzing with enthusiasm as pupils worked together, shared their ideas, and celebrated their love of numbers.
It was wonderful to see so much creativity, confidence, and enjoyment of maths, and the day was a great success. Thank you to all the children and families who supported the event with such fantastic costumes and positive energy.
Our Year 6 boys’ football team played a league match and put in a fantastic performance. The boys were excellent throughout the game, showing great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. For some of the team, this was their very first league game, making their effort even more impressive. Although the result didn’t go our way, we couldn’t be prouder of how hard they worked and how they all gave their best right to the final whistle. Well done, boys!
🌧️⚽️ League Matchday Recap
Our girls battled through the pouring rain and delivered a massive team performance today. The effort, determination, and support for each other were incredible to watch. A well-earned win, a hard-fought draw, and a narrow loss—but every match showed real grit, skill, and heart. So much to be proud of! 💪👏
Onwards and upwards as we head into the next round of league games—let’s keep building and pushing forward!
🚀✨ The Wonderdome visited Bedonwell Junior School, giving our Year 5 pupils an out-of-this-world experience! Inside the dome, they travelled through space, exploring our solar system and learning all about the planets. 🌍🪐 Year 5 absolutely loved the session and were fully engaged throughout — a brilliant and memorable way to bring learning to life!
The nursery children have been enjoying exploring the traditional tales Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. They have been very creative, making their own artwork of the pigs and the wolf, and using different materials to bring the stories to life. To celebrate Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the children also hosted a special porridge party, where they talked about the characters and the events in the story while tasting different types of porridge. It has been a wonderful way to develop their storytelling, creativity, and communication skills.
This week and last week, we celebrated our PROUD assembly, highlighting the children’s fantastic demonstration of our PROUD values: Perseverance, Respect, Optimism, Unity, and Discovery. Throughout the week, every child has shown great effort, kindness, and curiosity in their learning and interactions, truly embodying the spirit of these values. We are incredibly proud of how our pupils live out PROUD in everything they do!

We are happy to welcome children who wish to ride their scooters and bikes to school. However, for everyone’s safety, children and adults must dismount their scooters or bikes before entering the gates. Please do not ride any scooter or bike around the KS2 playground or in our busy infant and junior milling areas before and after school. These areas can become crowded, and riding could lead to accidents or injuries. We appreciate your support in helping us keep our playgrounds safe for all our children and adults.
It is really important for all children to drink water throughout the day, which is why children need to bring a water bottle into school. However, can we please ask that children only bring in either a disposable plastic or re-usable plastic water bottle.
Some children are bringing in large metal water bottles which when knocked over can cause disruption in the class.
Please can we also ask that Airup water bottles are not brought into school, these are expensive and can sometimes be knocked over in a busy classroom and damaged or broken.
