This week has been a busy and enriching one at Bedonwell School. Year 1 enjoyed an exciting visit to the local library, where they explored new stories and deepened their love of reading. Years 4 and 5 took part in an important 'Consent' assembly, helping them build understanding around respect and personal boundaries, while Year 6 followed this with dedicated workshops that encouraged thoughtful discussion and positive interactions with one another. We also celebrated our festive Infant Elfridges sale, where children had the opportunity to purchase wonderful gifts for their parents/carers and loved ones—bringing joy, independence, and a little holiday magic to their week.
What a magical day we had at our Christmas Fair this past Saturday! Thanks to the wonderful efforts of FOBS (Friends of Bedonwell), along with our amazing parent and teacher volunteers, the fair was a true celebration of the festive season. The school was filled with the sights, sounds, and sparkle of Christmas, from fun-filled games and exciting prizes to the joyful laughter of children meeting Santa Claus himself. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special – it was a heart warming way to kick off the Christmas season and spread holiday cheer throughout our school community!
Children in KS2 have been busy at home diving into the world of science and creating fantastic posters based on topics that interest them the most. From the mysteries of space and the wonders of the human body to the fascinating lives of animals and the principles of physics, the posters are packed with intriguing facts, diagrams, and colourful illustrations. Their hard work and creativity show not only a strong understanding of scientific concepts but also a real enthusiasm for learning. These amazing posters are now proudly on display around the school, inspiring others to explore and discover the exciting world of science.
Our amazing FOBS (Friends of Bedonwell) organised a wonderful Elfridges sale on Friday for children in KS1. The children had the exciting opportunity to choose from a range of carefully selected Christmas gifts, allowing them to pick something special for their parents/carers and loved ones. The sale was a huge success, spreading festive cheer and giving the children a chance to experience the joy of giving this holiday season.
This week, our Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils took part in a 'Talk and Consent' workshop followed by a whole-school assembly focused on respectful relationships and personal boundaries. Through interactive activities and age-appropriate discussions, pupils learned about the importance of clear communication, recognising their own boundaries, and respecting those of others. The sessions encouraged our pupils to think about how they can build positive connections both in and outside the classroom, and provided them with practical tools to help them stay safe, confident and considerate in their everyday interactions.
This week, we did not hold our usual PROUD assembly for KS1 as the schedule was adjusted to accommodate the KS1 Elfridges sale. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility.
Year 1 Everest Class had an exciting visit to our local Bostall Library this week. The children had the chance to explore a wide range of wonderful books and enjoy the joy of reading in a different setting. A highlight of the visit was a brilliant story read aloud to them by one of the librarians, sparking their imaginations and inspiring a love of reading. It was a fantastic experience for the children, giving them the opportunity to discover new stories and enjoy the magic of the library. Over the coming months, all Year 1 classes will have the chance to visit the library, ensuring every child can enjoy this special experience.
We have been blown away by the fantastic home learning this week! Darcy has impressed us with his brilliant DT skills, creating both a sturdy bridge and a detailed house at home. Reece, Abinisha, and Oscar have all produced amazing 3D volcanoes, packed with fascinating facts about volcanoes and mountains. It is wonderful to see the creativity, effort, and learning the children are putting into their projects, and their work is a real inspiration to everyone at school.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Happiness Heroes! Across the school, we use My Happy Mind in our RSHE lessons to support children’s well-being, and our Happiness Heroes will now be spreading joy and positivity throughout Bedonwell. They will also be developing exciting new initiatives to help all pupils feel happy, supported, and motivated, making school an even more enjoyable place to learn and grow.
A massive well done to Julian, who has earned the title of our Most Valuable Player on Times Table Rockstars! He has amassed an incredible number of points through hard work and dedication, showing great determination and commitment. Julian’s efforts have truly made him the school’s MVP—an achievement we are all very PROUD of!
Our Lunchtime Stars this week have been truly amazing! They have shown respect to all adults and have been incredibly helpful on the playground, tidying up and organising the games for others to enjoy. We also want to celebrate two children who took part in last week’s Netball match, demonstrating great perseverance, teamwork, and unity throughout the game. Well done to everyone for their fantastic effort and positive attitudes!

It is really important for all children to drink water throughout the day, which is why children need to bring a water bottle into school. However, can we please ask that children only bring in either a disposable plastic or re-usable plastic water bottle.
Some children are bringing in large metal water bottles which when knocked over can cause disruption in the class.
Please can we also ask that Airup water bottles are not brought into school, these are expensive and can sometimes be knocked over in a busy classroom and damaged or broken.
