Times tables

Rock Stars

Times Tables Rock Stars was launched in KS2 this term! The teachers and children all dressed up for our Times Tables Rock Stars day. They all had a great day.

All children have had their usernames and passwords sent home and since the launch, children have been logging in and practicing their times tables in school and at home.

Times  tables are an essential part of learning maths in school. Just 5 minutes practice a day on Times Tables Rock Stars will help children with their recall of number facts and help with their understanding of maths.

Miss Hunt has set a competition for the school to see who can earn the most coins and complete the most challenges on Time Tables Rock Stars. This competition is to be completed during half term.

Walk On Wednesdays (WOW)

Last term, the Junior Road Safety Officers delivered an assembly for KS2 talking about the benefits of walking to school.

They spoke about pollution, congestion around the school area and the health benefits of  walking. We have decided to introduce an idea we have called 'WOW' (Walk On Wednesdays). Every Wednesday, the children are asked in class how many of them walked to school or parked at least five minutes away and walked the rest of the way.

The class that have the most walkers will the receive the WOW trophy in celebration assembly and they get to keep it for the week. So far, the children are absolutely loving this new scheme. We have also made them all aware that there is absolutely no pressure and that sometimes adults have no option but to drive.

Year 6 SATs

Year 6 have worked extremely hard this term preparing themselves for their SATs tests.

Every morning during SATs week our year 6 pupils were welcomed into school early with a nice breakfast organised by Mrs Bartlett. Thank you to all the staff the volunteered to help make this a success.

Year 6 children did brilliantly throughout the week and really showed their perseverance with the tests. We are so proud of each and every one of them. WELL DONE YEAR 6!

The children also really enjoyed their treat on Friday watching the film Shrek!

E-safety

We have been made aware that some of our children are coming across a game/video called Huggy Wuggy. These videos are mostly found on youtube/TikTok and are not suitable for young children at all. They are of the jump scare variety and can cause upset when spoken about or imitated in school.

Can we please ask all parents to be vigilant about what your child is accessing when on devices. Some content may look appropriate as its designed to appeal to children. However, with Huggy Wuggy (Poppy Playtime) this content will scare and alarm children.

For more information, please click on the link below which is the National Online Safety poster about horror games and videos.

Year 4 biscuit making

As part of their Design Technology topic Year 4 have been tasting, designing and making their own biscuits!

The children got to taste a range of different biscuits to help them decide which biscuit they would make. They then designed their own biscuit and made the biscuits following the recipe they had planned. The finished biscuits looked amazing!

KS2 Art Club

The KS2 Art club have been very busy this term.

For their first lesson this term, art club explored and experimented with patterns and colour to create some radial symmetry pieces.

They then explored photography. The Art club children looked at different camera angles including birds eye and worms eye view and how they move objects further or closer to the lens to create a forced perspective.

The children then continued learning about photography by exploring different lighting effects and experimenting with editing software.

All of the outcomes look terrific!

Boy's football

The Year 6 boy's football team played their final games this half term. They played against Mayplace School, in an end of season friendly and played brilliantly throughout the game. They came out winners with an 8-2 result. Well done to Felix for scoring a terrific hat-trick.

Mr Burton and Mr Sullivan have been extremely impressed with the team this year, they have always played excellently and should be really proud of themselves. They have worked really well as a team throughout the year!

Girl's Football

The girl's football team have had a busy term, they were presented with a brand new kit by Charlton Football Club and sponsored by the Premier League.

They were given an opportunity to try out the new kits at the end of their league season matches and awards for their league.

We are all incredibly proud of them and they have each played their part in a successful year! All of the girls have played brilliantly in every game. Well done to Maisy, for achieving the 'Player Of The Season' award. Well done to all of the girls!

Children's University

Children’s University Graduation:

We are now officially on the countdown to graduation! The final date for adding stamps to the children’s accounts for this year’s graduation is Friday 7th June. Louise will be “clicking the button” to see who will be graduating from our school on Monday 10th June and after this date it will be difficult to add any children to the graduation list as she’ll be printing the certificates and ordering the correct number of gifts. Louise will liaise with us so that we can arrange an appropriate time for the graduations according to the number of graduates. Any stamps added after this date will count towards next year’s graduations, so they won’t be lost and we don’t put everything back to zero, but we do need a strict cut-off date so that we have enough time to order the correct number of gifts!

Termly overviews

At the start of term you will have recieved your child's termly overview on what they will be learning about over the term. As a school we have a broad balanced curriculum in every year group, where the children learn and gain knowledge from our interesting exciting curriculum.

If you missed the overviews; please see the links below which will take you to them.

Every week, children who follow our Golden Values in Bedonwell are chosen for the 'Always Award.' The children who receive the award have really impressed their class teacher by showing many or all of our seven Golden Values which are:

Manners, Respect, Teamwork, Stickability, Honesty, Kindness, Calmness.

They can be awarded the 'Always Award' four times throughout the year starting with the Bronze Always Award, then Silver Always Award, then Gold Aways Award and building up to the Platinum Always Award.

FOBS

What a term! Wow! There is so much to update you on! FOBS launched our new Stay and Play in the Bedonwell Centre on a Tuesday morning. We have met lovely parents since launching and would love any of you with children aged 3 and under to come and join us! It is £2 per child which includes a snack and a hot drink for the adult! It isn’t exclusive to Bedonwell parents so feel free to bring along friends with children too.

We have had both our year 1 and reception discos since the last newsletter, both of which were absolutely brilliant fun and the children looked like they were having the best time!

We had another successful colour run despite the weather scaring us beforehand! We had a blast! Well done to all our runners, who showed lots of perseverance lasting the whole 20 minutes.

Thank you so much to all our parents for supporting us and our volunteers who help us make it possible time and time again.

Keep your eyes peeled for our colour run video coming very soon…

We hope to see you all at our Summer Inflatables day on the 12th July to wrap up 2023/2024 for FOBS!

All the best

It is really important for all children to drink water throughout the day, which is why children need to bring a water bottle into school. However, can we please ask that children only bring in either a disposable plastic or re-usable plastic water bottle with a sealable lid.

Some children are bringing in large metal water bottles which when knocked over can cause disruption in the class.

Please can we also ask that Airup water bottles are not brought into school, these are expensive and can sometimes be knocked over in a busy classroom and damaged or broken.

We have also had occasions where Stanley Cups have leaked water into childrens' bags on the way to and from school. These bottles do not seal and when tipped will leak these have been knocked over in class which has caused damage to some of our books.

We are a nut free school!

As you may already be aware, we have several pupils that attend our school who have severe and in some cases life threatening nut allergies. Strict avoidance of peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life threatening allergic reaction. The anaphylaxis (allergic reactions) can occur as a result of allergens being airborne, through digestion, inhalation or any other contact with nut-based products.

For their safety, all nut-based products are banned from the school premises.

Please do not send your child into school with any nut-based product for a snack or packed lunch. Potential allergens could include the following:

We ask that you please check the labelling of food products before sending your child in to school with them – it is not always apparent that products contain nuts.

School uniform

Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform, please read through the guidance below to see what our uniform expectations are and also see where this can be bought from.

Please see the guidance for school uniform below:

Children wear their PE kit for the whole school day on the day of their PE lesson (you will be notified which day/s these are). This enables pupils not only to receive maximum learning time for their PE lessons, but also a reduces PE clothing being lost/misplaced.

PE kit expectations are:

The children will be expected to wear their grey school jumper or grey sweatshirt with grey shorts, joggers or leggings and will therefore remain in school colours on their PE day.

It is also essential that trainers worn on PE days are plain black as this will ensure consistency across the school with our uniform expectations.

All uniform mentioned above can be found at Boffins and Caseys, Links to their websites can be found below:
