In Nursery we have been learning the story of The Gingerbread Man and making our own dough. We wanted to help him escape and so we have been investigating which materials float and sink. We have also been making boats so that he can cross the river safely without being eaten by the fox! We are also exploring the Nursery garden and the art work of David Hockney. We have painted daffodils in the same style. A dental nurse came to visit us; we have been learning how to brush our teeth properly.
YR have been developing their gymnastic skills, balancing, improving their co-ordination and landing in a controlled manner. 'Superworm' has been their focus text, they have been using text mapping to learn and retell the story. The children have enjoyed learning songs for their class assemblies and were very excited to have an audience. During Forest School sessions the children have been embedding the Golden Values through turn taking and sharing, demonstrating stickability and are becoming increasingly independent. They are looking forward to continuing with Forest School next term.
In English, the children have been writing a recount based on the story of ‘Paddington at the Circus’. They have particularly been focusing on time adverbials and chronological order.
In computing, year 1 have been writing lists, designing a rocket using ‘Sketchpad’ and learning about the importance of instructions being in the correct order.
In RSHE, we have been learning about health and wellbeing. We have been thinking about understanding our emotions, importance of sleep, identifying our strengths, setting achievable goals and relaxation.
In PE, two of the year 1 classes have been learning and practising new ball skills with our coach and in our other PE lessons we have been focusing on team building skills and dance. In addition to our usual PE sessions, we have been supporting Mrs Burton by completing laps for the Marathon.
This term Year 2 have been learning lots of new things. In Science week we investigated our fingerprints and identified different patterns. In Art we created observational drawings of some things we saw outside and used paint to create shade. In Geography we compared an Arctic town to a city in the United Kingdom and shared our findings in a vent diagram. In RE we shared our own experiences of forgiveness after listening to the parable of the lost son.
The children in year 3 have been getting ready for their new History topic on the Ancient Egyptians by visiting Kent Life and taking part in a variety of Ancient Egyptian workshops and activties. They have been really enjoying learning about the life cycle of plants and what conditions plants needs to grow, bringing this topic to an end by creating their own greenhouses. During English, the children have produced some fantastic suspense stories and have used lots of dramatic vocabulary to hook the reader in. For their DT topic, children had lots of fun creating their healthy pizzas before taking them home to cook and enjoy. They used excellent chopping skills to chop ingredients ready to sprinkle on top and they looked extremely appetising!
Following the last update, children finished their persuasive unit in English, each writing a letter to convince Miss Flynn where to go on a school trip this year! We also completed our Roman inspired mosaics and children are very much enjoying planning and making their own bread sushi.
We have also recently learnt a lot about sound during our science lessons and loved the extra experiments during British Science Week!
Year 5 had an anxiety workshop with MHIST (Mental Health Independent Support Team) where they spoke about how to cope and deal with anxiety and how and where they might feel anxious. This linked into our earlier topic within the RSHE curriculum.
Children have been writing a fear story, where a character overcomes a fear and are currently writing a balanced argument. There has been a debate in class that children took part in and lots of discussion around different questions, such as 'Should animals be kept in captivity?', 'Should prisons be a nice place?'
They really enjoyed science week, using different materials to take their finger prints, learning about food chains and continuing to learn about forces.
We made a strawberry and banana smoothie for our DT lesson. Children were able to evaluate the smoothie and even think about what they would change if they were to make the smoothie again. The best part was being able to drink the smoothie after! Some children have even continued their learning and have experimented making different flavour smoothies at home.
On the 23rd March, year 6 took part in World War 2 Day which finished off their history topic on World War 2. The children and adults all dressed up like someone from the 1940's, there was a fantastic array of different outfits with most dressed as either soldiers or evacuees.
The children took part in lots of fun activities throughout the day. These included: learning a dance from the 1940's, making carrot biscuits and learning about rationing, playing traditional 1940's games that they would have played in the air raid shelters and creating their own ration books.
The children also experienced what to do in an air raid in 1940 - they heard the World War 2 siren and went into our 'air raid' shelter which was actually our PE garage!
Year 3 had a brilliant time at Kent life when they went on their trip on the 22nd of March. This was the perfect start to learning about their new topic on the Ancient Egyptians. The children were able to take part in lots of different activities and they all really enjoyed the visit!

In March Year 2 had their last ever Infant Disco and we were transported back to the early 90's when Achy Breaky Heart was requested during the evening. Thank you to Amazon class parents and Tracey from Danube, along with the teachers who helped us make it possible. We hope the Year 2 children had fun!
The Mother's Day and Ladies you Love Sales were a huge success. The children really enjoy independently picking out their own gifts and paying for them. Details will be released soon about Father's Day and Marvellous Men.
Break the rules was a huge success on the last day of term and raised over £1,000, which will be spent on enhanced resources for the children.
During the Easter holiday FOBS ran an Easter Egg design competition and Easter Poem competition. Thank you to all the children that entered the competitions. We had some fabulous entries.

On the 25th April, the girls’ football league came to a close. Throughout the year, the girls have all played incredibly well and should all be proud of themselves for what they have achieved as Mr White is too.
In the league this year, the girls played 10 matches: winning 8, drawing 1 and losing 1. We finished in 3rd place in our league, missing out on the finals on penalties. I know that the girls were devastated to miss out, but their enthusiasm, effort, teamwork and sportsmanship has been a credit to the school. We are all so proud of them.
During the league presentation, Priya was awarded Bedonwell’s Player of the Tournament after scoring 15 goals in 10 league matches. Also, Eloise was awarded Goalkeeper of the Tournament (an award presented to the goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals across the whole league). Huge congratulations to both girls on their achievement.
The boys played their quarter final match of the Digger Dane Cup in March, after a brilliant first half performance they were unfortunatly beaten by Belmont School who progressed to the semi-final.
The boys all played really well and there were some debut performances for Albert and Gabriel in the cup match.
Mr Burton and Mr White are also starting year 5 boy's football club which will take place on a Friday at lunchtime.
We as a school have noticed a number of children in upper KS2 have used or are using Snapchat or WhatsApp. The guidance below gives you and your child some useful tips on how to stay safe.
On Tuesday 28th March, Mrs Webb and Miss Moriarty took a group of children from our school choir to sing at the Bexley Music Festival. They, along with lots of other schools from Bexley sang a range of different songs to their captivated audience.
The school choir has been extremely busy so far this term learning all of the songs in the video below.
Amazing singing and performances by all. Well done!

Please see the guidance for school uniform below:
Grey sweatshirt (preferably with the school logo or otherwise plain)
Grey sweat cardigan (preferably with the school logo or otherwise plain)
Sky blue polo shirt (preferably with the school logo or otherwise plain)
Grey tailored trousers or grey tailored shorts
Grey skirt
Grey pinafore dress
Light blue & white checked dress (summer)
Navy blue, black or grey tights or white socks
Hair bands (small) in school colours only (grey, white or sky blue)
Where hijabs are worn they must be in the school colours of either blue, white or grey.
Pupils should at all times have suitable coats for outdoor wear, to cater for changeable weather.
Footwear must be plain black shoes or trainers.
For PE the children wear their PE kit for the whole school day on the day of their PE lesson (you will be notified which day/s these are). This has enabled pupils not only to receive maximum learning time for their PE lessons, but also a reduction in PE clothing being lost/misplaced.
PE kit expectations are:
Plain T-shirt in their ‘house colour’
Grey school jumper (plain- no branded clothing)
Grey shorts, grey tracksuit joggers or grey leggings (plain-no branded clothing).
Plain black trainers.
The children will be expected to wear their grey school jumper or grey sweatshirt with grey shorts, joggers or leggings and will therefore remain in school colours on their PE day.
It is also essential that trainers worn on PE days are plain black as this will ensure consistency across the school with our uniform expectations.
All uniform mentioned above can be found at Boffins and Caseys, Links to their websites can be found below:
