The Bexley Music Primary Choir is made up of 35 children aged 6 to 11, from four local schools including Bedonwell. Over the Christmas holidays the impressive choir sang While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks during the King's Christmas Day message on December 25th. As a school we are incredibly proud that Leila and Bree from years 4 and 6 sang and were part of such a wonderful event.

Our Junior Road Safety Officers launched a competition last term to design a piece of clothing or a poster that would help you to 'Be Bright. Be Seen.'
The winner of the competition was Florence from Thames class. You can see her in the photograph below wearing her hi-vis jacket with her amazing design on. Well done Florence!
The KS2 choir had the amazing opportunity to sing at Young Voices which was held at the O2 in January. Our school, along with hundreds of others schools sang at the huge national choir event. The children and adults sang beautifully, showcasing some of the wonderful songs they have been learning this year and they all really enjoyed the event. Check out the pictures and videos from the concert.
Art Club in KS2 have been extremly busy in their recent art sessions.
They started by exploring string painting. First they covered a piece of string with paint, then placed it on a page in loops and whirls before closing their sketch book and slowly pulling the string out to leave behind these interesting patterns.
In the new year Art Club have been exploring different ways they can represent abstract nouns including using colours, animals, shapes and patterns. They then created an art piece of an abstract noun that they feel represents them.
December and January were very busy months for the boy's football team.
The B team played in the Xmas cup at Bexleyheath Goals at the end of December against 7 other school teams from Bexley. They played brilliantly throughout, winning their group with 3-0 and 2-1 wins. They then won their semi-final match, coming from behind to win 2-1. They were unlucky in the final but were a real credit to the school and played really well.
The A team had their 4th round Kevin McCarthy cup game in January against Bursted Woods. The team were fantastic and played one of the most competitive games ever against a really good Busted Wood side. After normal time the game was tied 2-2. Unfortunately, we conceded in extra time but this did not take away from the boys how well they played in the game.
The year 5/6 girl's football team had their second round of league football games at Bexleyheath Goals. They played excellently and won their first game 1-0, they lost their second game 0-1 and then drew their third game 2-2! All of the girls played brilliantly and were a real credit to the school.
Well done!
Year 2 English topic this half term is Jack and the Beanstalk. The children were excited to come into school to see a long beanstalk had grown overnight! They then planted their own magic beans to take home and are eager to see them grow into huge beanstalks.
In order to explore the wonders of books and reading, and encourage children’s interest in reading regularly, Miss Fisher is holding weekly assemblys to celebrate the children who are reading five times a week. These children have all receive a ‘Star Reader’ certificate from their teacher. The class with the highest number of ‘Star Readers’ have also been announced in assembly each week and they have been given a trophy to take back to their classroom. They have also been able to borrow a box of books from Miss Fisher for their teacher to read in class and during the next assembly, they will talk about the book to motivate other classes to achieve as many star readers as possible.
In order to support your child in achieving as many reading experiences as possible, please ensure that you record all of their reading experiences in their yellow reading diary.
Entries must include both ‘reading for pleasure’ and ‘Little Wandle’ Collins Big Cat reading books. If your child is in Reception and only bringing home reading for pleasure books at this time, then please record these reads every day.
Year 5 had a visit from The Wonderdome. The Wonderdome allows children to experience space like never before. The children are taken on a fantastic trip through space, seeing different planets and moons across our solar system. Every class in year 5 really enjoyed this experience and it also inspired them for the rest of their Science Space topic.
Every week, children who follow our Golden Values in Bedonwell are chosen for the 'Always Award.' The children who receive the award have really impressed their class teacher by showing many or all of our seven Golden Values which are:
Manners, Respect, Teamwork, Stickability, Honesty, Kindness, Calmness.
They can be awarded the 'Always Award' four times throughout the year starting with the Bronze Always Award, then Silver Always Award, then Gold Aways Award and building up to the Platinum Always Award.
Check out the children who won the always award in November.
How are we already into February 2024? Where did January go? It only seems like yesterday that we were setting up all day Friday for the Christmas Fair. We hope you all had a great time, and thanks again to everyone that came along and supported us, either as volunteers or attending the fair. Did you enjoy the waffles and the cupcakes? Keep an eye out for them at future events.
The children really enjoyed visiting the Elfridges Sales in December, and showed independence with their gift choosing and money counting. We hope you enjoyed the gifts the children purchased and had a lovely winter break.
Thank you to everyone that purchased Xmas4Schools mugs, tea towels, and cards, every item purchased gives FOBS £1 to reinvest into the school.
Year 4 kicked off our discos for 2024 in January. Don't forget to purchase your year 3 tickets for their disco on Tuesday 20th February.

It is really important for all children to drink water throughout the day, which is why children need to bring a water bottle into school. However, can we please ask that children only bring in either a disposable plastic or re-usable plastic water bottle.
Some children are bringing in large metal water bottles which when knocked over can cause disruption in the class.
Please can we also ask that Airup water bottles are not brought into school, these are expensive and can sometimes be knocked over in a busy classroom and damaged or broken.

When dropping off or collecting your children from school please may we remind you to park safely and considerately. We are receiving an increasing number of complaints from local residents on all our surrounding roads reporting that parents are parking across driveways, on the zig zag lines and, on occasion, double parking to let children out of the car.
Over the next few months the local PCSOs and Bexley’s Parking Enforcement Team will be patrolling the area to remind people about road safety and are able to issue tickets and fines to owners of vehicles parked incorrectly.
Residents can also report incorrect parking themselves online at:
We would be grateful for your co-operation in parking considerately to ensure our continuing good relationships with the local residents.
Finally a reminder to please keep your children with you at all times in the playground and milling areas particularly if they have a scooter/bike with them.
For the safety of all we ask that children do not ride scooters and bikes etc whilst on the school sites and that they do not ride unaccompanied on the pavements outside the school.
As you may already be aware, we have several pupils that attend our school who have severe and in some cases life threatening nut allergies. Strict avoidance of peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life threatening allergic reaction. The anaphylaxis (allergic reactions) can occur as a result of allergens being airborne, through digestion, inhalation or any other contact with nut-based products.
For their safety, all nut-based products are banned from the school premises.
Please do not send your child into school with any nut-based product for a snack or packed lunch. Potential allergens could include the following:
Spreads, e.g., chocolate spread
Cereal bars
Some types of biscuit containing nuts
Condiments, e.g., satay sauce
Cakes containing nuts
Some snack pots containing nuts
We ask that you please check the labelling of food products before sending your child in to school with them – it is not always apparent that products contain nuts.
Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform, please read through the guidance below to see what our uniform expectations are and also see where this can be bought from.
Please see the guidance for school uniform below:
Grey sweatshirt (preferably with the school logo or otherwise plain)
Grey sweat cardigan (preferably with the school logo or otherwise plain)
Sky blue polo shirt (preferably with the school logo or otherwise plain)
Grey tailored trousers or grey tailored shorts
Grey skirt
Grey pinafore dress
Light blue & white checked dress (summer)
Navy blue, black or grey tights or white socks
Hair bands (small) in school colours only (grey, white or sky blue)
Where hijabs are worn they must be in the school colours of either blue, white or grey.
Pupils should at all times have suitable coats for outdoor wear, to cater for changeable weather.
Footwear must be plain black shoes or trainers.
Children wear their PE kit for the whole school day on the day of their PE lesson (you will be notified which day/s these are). This enables pupils not only to receive maximum learning time for their PE lessons, but also a reduces PE clothing being lost/misplaced.
PE kit expectations are:
Plain T-shirt in their ‘house colour’
Grey school jumper (plain- no branded clothing)
Grey shorts, grey tracksuit joggers or grey leggings (plain-no branded clothing).
Plain black trainers.
The children will be expected to wear their grey school jumper or grey sweatshirt with grey shorts, joggers or leggings and will therefore remain in school colours on their PE day.
It is also essential that trainers worn on PE days are plain black as this will ensure consistency across the school with our uniform expectations.
All uniform mentioned above can be found at Boffins and Caseys, Links to their websites can be found below:
