Dear Wolverine Families,

Every year on September 17th our nation is blessed as we honor and celebrate our Constitution and Citizenship Day. On this day we are reminded of the enduring significance of the United States Constitution, a document that has shaped the fabric of our nation since its inception. It is more than just a set of laws; it is the bedrock upon which our country’s values, freedoms, and system of governance are built. The Constitution is more than a historical artifact; it is a living document that guides us, challenges us, and calls us to a higher standard.

On this Constitution and Citizenship Day, let us all recommit ourselves to honoring the principles that have shaped our nation, and to uphold the duty, honor, and love of country that we cherish so deeply.

ESS (Extended School Services):

ESS began tutoring this week before and after school. Math and Social Studies will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-4:15, English on Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:30, and Science on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:15. Students can join the ESS Google Classroom page (ttdxuxb) for information on working teachers and locations of each session.

Driver License Requirement:

Students needing to fulfill their Graduated Driver Licensing requirement can register for a free class by going to www.kentuckysafedriver.com and clicking on the Alive at 25 links located under Courses or by calling 502/699-2295. The next course is offered on Thursday, October 25th at The Frankfort Christian Academy from 4:00-8:00 and Monday, November 18th at Western Hills from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Youth Salute Scholarships - Applications are due September 27, 2024:

The purpose of this program is to honor high school juniors in your community who maintain a high scholastic average and have demonstrated leadership ability. There are over $112,000 in scholarship awards given.

In order to be eligible for this program, students must be high school juniors (senior class of 2026). Have at least a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A. through their sophomore year. (Any student who attains a 3.0 G.P.A. by the end of the fall semester of their junior year may submit a late nomination by January 15th, 2025.)Have held TWO LEADERSHIP ROLES to which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations.

PSAT:

The PSAT will be offered at Western Hills on October 23rd during the school day. Any student in grades 9-11 can sign up to take the exam. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test designed to help students prepare for the SAT or ACT and to qualify for National Merit Scholarship programs (qualifying for the scholarship is only available for competing Juniors). Sport Physicals at WHHS:

We are excited to announce that the Franklin County Health Department school nurses and APRN, Jane Bartram, will be offering Sports physicals at WHHS on 10/2/2024 from 4-6:30. If you are interested in this service please go to the following link, http://fchd.org/FCSPhysicals, select a time and complete all questions. The charge will be $25.00, we will take cash or card. If you have any questions, please reach out to the school nurse.

HOCO Dance:

The HOCO Dance will be Saturday, September 28th from 9-12. Tickets can be purchased at the door. If your student is bringing a non Western Hills student to the dance, they need to fill out a guest permission slip by Wednesday, September 25th. Tackle Hunger Food Drive:

The West vs. the East in a food drive! Hills will be collecting food items during the month of October. Help us win the most food collected and bragging rights for a year! Tackle Hunger Food Drive

French Students:

Western Hills French students are headed to France in June 2025! This trip is open to all Western Hills students who have taken or are currently taking French, as well as their parents or guardians. Contact Ms. Board (caroline.board@franklin.kyschools.us) for more information.

Senior Parents:

Lifetouch photos will be at WHHS the morning of Friday, October 4th to take formal pictures of our seniors. These are old fashioned drapes/ tuxedo photos. Girls need a tank top to wear under the drape. Boys need a white t-shirt to wear underneath the white dress shirt and black jacket which will be provided for them. Makeup photos will be Wednesday, November 13th. Parents will have the option to purchase these photos, however, it is not required. Thank you for reminding your Senior!
