What kind of tutoring or coaching does The Resilient Child provide?
Executive Function Coaching
Academic tutoring in all subject areas
How are you different from other tutoring services?
At The Resilient Child, we use students' academic work as a tool to help the student and family build habits to help them in school and life. We teach the child how to learn and the parent how to support the child. Through academic content, we achieve those long-term goals. We personalize these goals for each family because each student is vastly different. The most common priorities have been managing time, initiating work, being self-directed, and organizing belongings and surroundings to support these goals. These are commonly termed executive function skills.
What is Executive Function?
Executive Function skills are the set of skills needed to help us navigate the world around us.
How much do sessions cost?
The cost of coaching sessions* varies depending upon student needs, abilities, and services provided. Cost will be determined after a free initial consultation. During the consultation, our team will work with the parent/guardian and student to create an action plan for future sessions.
*Depending on the student's age and abilities, sessions are 45 - 60 minutes and include a 5 - 10 minute check-in with the supporting parent/guardian. At The Resilient Child, we understand that for any skill to become automatic and independent the student will need support between coaching sessions. Families play an important role in the student’s success.
Where does tutoring or coaching take place?
We offer in-person and remote sessions. In-person sessions may be conducted at the student’s home or in public locations that offer quiet, private spaces such as public library study rooms. Remote sessions are conducted through Zoom or Google Meet. The choice of in-person and remote sessions is offered to provide the best option for our students.
What happens during a session?
Each session will be personalized based on your child’s needs and abilities but will have the following elements:
Check in about what’s happening in your child’s life and how things have progressed since the last session.
Review current and future assignments, progress, and how they are managing the time needed for those assignments. This is where we will suggest tools and strategies.
Family meeting to recap and review what your child has decided to work on until the next session.
How many sessions does my child need?
Every child is different, has different needs, abilities, and desires therefore the number of coaching sessions will vary from child to child. While a parent, teacher, or coach may see areas that need to be addressed for the child to be more successful, the child has to be ready to implement strategies independently. Until that time, our coaches will work with your child to build connections, share ideas and tools and support them in areas where they are ready to receive the support. There are no contracts so tutoring/coaching may be canceled at any time.
