OUR AIM

The objective of Backslash is to serve as a platform for students to showcase and nurture their technical skills by gaining knowledge through the workshops, lectures and competitions being organized in and outside the campus.

PAST EVENTS

TECHNOHOLIX 1.0

Each team had two members. Out of the 31 teams, 8 teams were selected for the quiz through a logical reasoning test. The 8 teams were then called on the stage for the quiz. In the 1st round the 8 teams were made to identify the logo being shown on screen. The team which pressed the buzzer was allowed to answer. The 1st round proved to be very interesting and engaging. It really put to test the knowledge of the participants. The 2nd round required the participants to use their coding skills and give the output of the code being shown to them. This was a really important round for the teams as it were to decide which 4 teams would be proceeding to the third and final round and the participants did not disappoint. They tried their best to decode the complex codes and find the output.

After the 2nd round 4 teams proceeded onto the next round. The 3rd round was filled with mind twisting riddles. The participants tried their best in answering the riddles. At last Abdul Muiz and Pranshu Soni bagged the first prize and were awarded a Rs 1000 Amazon gift card. Dhruv Jindal and Ishan Sakhuja came in at 2nd position and were awarded with a Rs 700 Amazon gift card while Hitika Saini and Komalpreet Kaur came 3rd and were given a Rs 500 Amazon gift card.

Coding Orientation with Machine Learning

The Coding Orientation with Machine Learning in association with Coding Blocks focused on giving first-year and second-year students a hands-on experience in Machine Learning. The Workshop was conducted by Mr. Prateek Narang, Co-Founder of Coding Blocks and Mr. Jatin Virmani, Operations and Business Development Manager at Coding Blocks.

Mr. Prateek Narang started from the basics of python and later on moved on to Machine Learning. Everything was taught from scratch. Students who did not have any prior knowledge about programming also didn’t face any problem. Technologies like face detection and lyrics generation using Machine Learning were also taught during the workshop.

Binge to Code

On the day of the event, the teams were seated and were briefed about the event. Thenceforth the event commenced with question number one, which necessitated the knowledge of game shows and movies; with each question marked easy to hard corresponding to the difficulty of the coding questions that would redirect the participants to Hackerrank links that granted them the access to their coding questions. These questions were to be solved alongside question number one within 1hour. Teams were granted points according to the number of test cases they successfully ran. Each team fixated and put in lots of hard work to solve these questions. After the time was up, the Backslash team had the results in their hands of the first 2 rounds. Post a 10-minute break we commenced with the third round which was a trivia quiz that comprised of 15 questions. In a nail-biting ending, we saw team ‘Slytherin’ snatch away the victory title from team ‘#todo’ by just under a minute. The winning team was awarded with Amazon voucher worth Rs. 2,500 while the runner-up team was awarded with Amazon voucher worth Rs. 1500. We received amazing feedback after this event which was a huge success.

Interview Preparation Workshop

The Interview Preparation Workshop was held in the college auditorium from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M and was attended by around 50 students. The prime goal of this workshop was to help participants understand the techniques behind cracking technical interviews. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Sanket Singh who is a mentor at Coding Blocks. He is an ace programmer and has won prestigious hackathons. It was a fruitful session and the guest speaker put across the points in a logical and an easy to understand way. In the workshop, he explained the process of building and leveraging a network for job opportunities with the help of latest job searching tools. Important topics like data structures and algorithms and tricky interview questions, that one needs to know to land a great job, were also discussed. He also talked about off-campus placements and explained to the participants the process of building a compelling and an up to par resume.

The workshop was well organized and will go a long way in enhancing the participants’ skills for future interviews
