Term Four 2026 ...
BYOD and Chromebook Use - Important
The Te Kahikatea teachers are having ongoing discussions with students about the need for them to be signed into their school account when at school. Being logged into and using their school account means that we can use the Hapara Teacher Dashboard to view their google docs (and therefore provide feedback) and monitor that they are on the websites we have asked them to be on. When they are logged into their own personal accounts we are unable to see their documents or view which websites they are on. We have given the students plenty of opportunity to manage their device use and we have a few students who continue to log into their personal accounts so that we are unable to see them. Looking forward to Term 4 we will be monitoring this closely. We will communicate with you if your child is one that is having difficulty managing this and ask that you support us if we ask them to leave their own device at home. A shared school device will be made available to them should we ask them to leave their own device at home. We are all in this together.
Sunhats - Important
This term all of our children must wear a fully-brimmed sun hat which shades the neck and ears. Students without sun hats will need to play in the shade. Caps and beanies are not suitable as sun hats. Replacement hats can be purchased from the Office.
Lost Property: The Lost Property Rack is located on the ramp to Rm 5&6. To assist with the safe return of items it would be appreciated if you could clearly name your child’s clothing. Unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of each term.
Headphones / Earbuds: We do not have any headphones at school for the children to use. If your child has a set of headphones or earbuds that they use at home it would be great if they could bring these to school with them. It can get quite confusing in the classroom when all the children are listening to an activity in surround sound ☺ Thanks to those who have already thought about this and sent them along. This was a required item on the stationery lists.
Snack Break / Water: Water and food fuels the brain! The children are welcome to have a water bottle in class and will be encouraged to have a healthy snack break during the first session of the day. We ask that you send a named water bottle - with water - to school daily. The children will be able to fill up their drink bottles from the classroom taps. Please, please, please send along a named water bottle - it is very hot!
Cellphones / Smartwatches: We understand that many of the children need their cellphones / smartwatches at school for personal arrangements and safety reasons before and after school. From 8:30am or once the children are at school the cellphones / smartwatches must be handed to the teacher and they are then locked away in the school office for the duration of the school day. If you need to get a message to your children during the day, we ask that this is directed via the school office so that we can ensure the message gets through to the children.
Music Programme (Thursday)
Choir: Mr Edmonds will be taking choir for Year 3 - 8 students who are interested between 9:10 and 10:10am. This will focus on Christmas Carols for the end of the year and building choir for 2027. There is also a trip to the Charles Fleming Retirement Village late in Term 4. Please see dates for diaries.
