TGS Football Committee
We are looking for some keen volunteers to join our Football Committee to help develop football at TGS for our students.
The roles we wish to fill are outlined below with an overall discussion of the structure of Football here at TGS
Committee structure…
Teacher in Charge
These are the people that see the students on a day-to-day basis and have the ability to promote the sport internally to students / other teachers alike. They are the glue for that sport.
For Foorball these people are Mr Smith (Boys Football) s.smith@tgs.school.nz and Mrs Tuisila (Girls Football) m.tuisila@tgs.school.nz
Coaching
One the keys to success is having coaches involved that have strong inter-personal skills, good technical knowledge and strong management skills. Coaches often come “internally” – be it through the school, the student body or the parent community. The wider Peninsula community also has a wealth of talent that is often just waiting to be asked to help. A key deliverable of the committee is the ability to identify the right coaches for the appropriate student ability level and bring these together.
Strong Committee
Driven by the above two the formation of a committee that works for the sport as a whole (rather than for a particular team, individual or isolated outcome). Also to ensure continuity over the years as parents move in and out as their students move on. The committee could / should include the following (this is not a defined list):
Of course not all of this may be required or there maybe things specific that have been missed. Ideally at least one person fills each of these roles (many hands make light work). Succession planning is a big thing – to ensure people are targeted to take over in a timely manner.
Sports Department
Sitting behind all of this is the Sports Dept at Takapuna Grammar. The role of the Sports Dept is to facilitate the sport within the school and within the school network. Specific duties include: Entering teams / individuals into competitions; attending sport / code meetings to advocate for our teams in the wider college sports landscape; to work on ensuring the required resources are available for the sport to operate (note this does not include funding of uniforms or equipment); overseeing the development of the sport in line with other codes within the school; acting as a back stop to the Teacher in Charge and to the Committee Chair and providing whatever other support to help the sport grow and flourish
