We know that birthdays are special to our students! Please communicate with me regarding these celebrations so we can work together to plan fun and safe celebrations for everyone.
We encourage families to send in non-food items like goodie bags or pencils (due to allergies).
If you do send in a treat, it should be pre-packaged (bags of cookies, etc). Please make sure that all treats are healthy (sugar cannot be the first ingredient).
Each night (Monday - Thursday), we will have one ELA worksheet for homework.
Reading Calendar- Students should also read (or be read to) for at least 15 minutes each night.
No! We are only in first grade!
Encourage your child to write the sounds that they hear.
We want to build fearless writers who are not afraid to put pencil to paper.
Each trimester, students will receive a standards based report card which identifies the most important skills in each grade and content area in alignment with NJ Learning Standards and district curriculum.
Each skill is assessed with a numerical value (4, 3, 2, 1).
The numbers are not indicators of a linear performance from trimester to trimester. They are reflective of the goals of the current trimester.
So, do not expect to see a 2 -> 3 -> 4.
Not every skill is assessed every trimester.
Assessment Scale
4-Exceeds Standards-Indicated high achievement. Student shows initiative, challenges him/herself and demonstrates advanced knowledge at school.
3- Grade Level Expectations- Something to be celebrated!!!
2-Progress- Indicate your child is making progress but may need extra help or time to practice/understand that concept or skill.
1-Limited Progress- Interventions may be needed.
All dismissal changes should be done on Genesis. This will inform the office if you are planning to pick up your child at dismissal, or at another time during the day.
