One of my fondest memories from elementary school was music class. I loved singing in choir, musical theater, playing instruments, and being on stage. I carry these memories into my teaching style in the hopes to instill a love of music in each of my students here at Swimming River. I began my studies at The College of New Jersey where I received my Bachelors in Music Education. I furthered my studies at Manhattan School of Music where I received my Masters in Classical Voice Performance. I started teaching early childhood right out of graduate school in addition to performing regionally in operas, musicals, oratorio concerts, and for the New Jersey Devils hockey team. Throughout my tenure as an educator I have taught every age from 6 months through 12th grade. I look forward to learning more about each of my student's musical abilities and establishing an appreciation and love for the art form.

In 3rd grade every student will be given their very own recorder. Through this instrument the students will learn how to work together, blend their sound, and read music. The students will learn how to identify and determine note values, note names, parts of a staff, and how to apply this to their instrument. This will culminate into a recorder/singing concert. These skills will also be reviewed and reinforced in a piano unit at the end of the year. Each student will be assessed based on their own piano abilities at the start of the unit.
Important date:
3rd grade concert: Thursday February 27th 2025 @ 9:15am
In fourth grade all students will have a winter and spring concert. In addition to participating in band (which is optional) students will be enhancing and showcasing their singing abilities. Students will also be taking musical trips exploring world music as well as participating in a school wide March Music Madness. The year will end with a continuation of the piano unit they participated in during 3rd grade. The elements of music (tempo, dynamics, instrument families, note values, note naming, etc) will be incorporated in all of the musical activities throughout the year.
Important dates:
Winter Concert: Wednesday December 18, 2024 @ 9:15am
Spring Concert: Wednesday June 11, 2025 @ 6:30pm
As a fifth grader, students will start the year with a ukulele unit. Students will learn how to hold the ukulele, different strumming patterns, and the four essential ukulele chords. Each student will have their own ukulele to practice on in class, and there will be extra ukulele performance opportunities throughout the year. The year will continue with a musical technology unit that is a collaborative project with technology and art. The final product will be displayed during the spring art show. Other units throughout the year will include a schoolwide March Music Madness and piano.
This year 5th graders will also have the option to join chorus. This is a pull out class on Thursdays and will include more challenging (but still fun!) music. There will be two concerts that will include both 5th grade band and chorus.
Important dates:
Winter Concert: Monday December 16, 2024 @ 6:30pm
Spring Concert: Thursday June 12, 2025 @ 6:30pm
