Mathematics
In Math, we are building a deeper understanding of numbers beyond 1,000. Students are practicing counting forward and backward, representing numbers on a 4-column abacus, and using number lines to solve addition problems. Later this week, we’ll explore geometric shapes and their attributes. Encourage your child to practice counting, place value, and addition strategies at home to strengthen their math fluency!
In ELA, we are exploring The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen. Students are describing characters’ traits, motivations, and feelings, and explaining how their actions affect the story. They are also learning to cite text evidence to support their responses. In writing, students are practicing fiction storytelling, brainstorming “what if” scenarios, and drafting their own creative stories. Encourage your child to share their stories at home and talk about the characters and events in their reading!
n Science and Social Studies, students are reviewing our Civics unit and preparing for an upcoming test. They are learning about citizenship, community responsibilities, and personal and social skills. Encourage your child to discuss what they’re learning about being a responsible member of the community!
