September - We will begin the school year with Chapter 10 (referred to as a “Lesson” in TCI). Our focus will be on understanding the historical background and events that led to the need for the United States Constitution. During the month of September, students will not have any projects or chapter tests. Instead, there will be one quiz to assess their understanding of the material we cover.
October - We will continue covering Chapter 10 (the writing of the Constitution). Our first quiz will be on October 1 (A Day) & October 2 (B Day). We have begun the practice of "old school" note-taking. Students will highlight important information in their notes to help them study for the first quiz and the chapter test (which will be later in the month). Also, a Blooket will be posted on Google Classroom that will help review for these assessments. One of the biggest takeaways from this current chapter is the setup of our branches of government and how it connects to current events in our country.
November - November is always such a quick month! We will start the month off with a quiz on the Three Branches of Government as we dive into Chapter 11 (The Constitution). We will begin working on the first PBL (Project-Based Learning) of the year in Social Studies. Students will be working with a group to research and present a landmark Supreme Court Case of their choice. My goal is to be able to finish and test the students on Chapter 11 by the end of the month. For 10 extra credit points on their test (yes... you read that correctly!), students can memorize the Preamble of the Consitutution.
