Science Olympiad

Thompson Falls school offers so many amazing activities! The Science Olympiad is one of them. Mrs. Sawyer coaches the Jr. High team. We started practicing in January and went to our competition in March. We did Tuesday and Thursday practices, and then went from Monday to Thursday. For the competition, we went to Bozeman, Montana, and spent the night. We all shared rooms. Girls had 2 rooms and boys had 3 rooms. There were 3 to 4 people in each room. There were 16 junior high and highschool kids in total.

The bus ride was 6 hours and it was really fun to be with friends. Competition day was also really fun. We did a lot of running back and forth, which is why we found that helps is comfy shoes. We recommend doing Science Olympiad. Some of the events are bridge, disease detectives, forestry, wheeled vehicle, rocks and minerals, mousetrap vehicles, experimental design and solar system.

“It was very fun. I had a great time and learned many skills, definitely recommended, “ said participant Lexi Franck.

Phones go in the coaches room at night and at practice you do not have them out. Practice lasts from 3:30 to 5:00 and parents pick students up. When in Bozeman, participants go to the Museum of the Rockies, which is really fun. This year they had cockroaches and snakes that we could hold. There were some old cars and 3D printing, along with other fun activities. Students can pay to get team shirts. We definitely recommend doing Science Olympiad!
