The primary goal of this section is to support and enhance the application of epidemiology (in both academia and practice) in Texas. The Epidemiology Section Leaders will hold their positions until the next election in 2025. Our section leaders are as follows:
Diego Cardenas, MSHA
Chair
Diego Cardenas lives in San Antonio, Texas and is a Regional Director of Epidemiology for Compass Connections. He was born and raised in Laredo, Texas and previously worked as an Epidemiologist for the City of Laredo Health Department and CDC Foundation.
Miso Lee, PhD
Secretary
Miso Lee is a research assistant professor of Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She studies health disparities that disproportionately affect rural populations, racial minorities, and people with disability.
Elizabeth Cuevas, PhD
Chair-Elect
Elizabeth is a program manager at Texas Public Health Region 4/5N. She leads programs to manage communicable diseases and she is an active member at TPHA. She is passionate about public health and committed to supporting our community.
Mahima Viswanathan, MD, MPH
Secretary-Elect
Mahima is a research associate at the UTHealth Houston - Austin. Her interests are infectious disease, global health, preventive medicine, health equity, and grassroots-level initiatives that drive positive change.
