Concerts are a very important part of your child's participation in the music program. Because a concert performance makes everyone nervous, there are a few things you as an audience can do to help to make this concert less stressful. 1. Please be seated before the starting time of the performance. Remember to turn off any electronic devices that may cause a distracting noise during the duration of the performance. 2. Loud and restless audience members are a distraction to others and performers. If you have small children that are crying or making other noises, please exit the auditorium with your child quickly and quietly and rejoin as soon as you are able. 3. If you must leave or enter the auditorium during the performance, please do so between musical selections, not during the middle of a piece of music. It is required for all student performers to stay until to watch the other ensembles, so please refrain from leaving once your child is finished. 4. All audience members must stay in their seats and refrain from being a distraction to other audience members. Physical/audible (moving, talking or other distractions - including noise made by candy/cough drop wrappers) or other distractions are not considered the best behavior for anyone who is attending a formal performance. 5. Please don't call out your friend's, child's, or teacher's name during the performance. Feel free to cheer and clap once the piece or performance is finished. 6. Hold your applause until after the conductor has indicated (by lowering their arms and hands) the end of a piece of music. 7. PLEASE LET YOUR CHILD KNOW THEY DID WELL AND YOU APPRECIATE THEIR EFFORT. Follow these basic rules at any concert and you will have an enjoyable experience listening to your young musicians._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________OTS Concert Dress

It is recommended and encouraged that students enroll in private music lessons to advance their own personal levels of musicianship. Through private lessons, students get one on one time to delve into technique, troubleshooting and instructors can tailor the lessons to the students needs. Private lessons can raise the level of the individual player and in turn the band ensemble. Students may also want to pursue a secondary instrument and this can greatly impact their success as an overall musician. For information on finding a private lesson teacher, please contact the music directors. In many instances a 30-60 minute lesson once a week can provide incredible growth for a musician. Private lessons are in no way required, simply encouraged.
